Onkyo TX-8511 / Bluetooth / "PROTECT" message

Just picked up a Onkyo TX-8511 for free, this receiver sounds great, I was wondering what it would take (if possible) to connect my smartphone to the device via Bluetooth or even directly.

I have my TV working with it (I am only using built-in TV speakers at the time) but it seems if I turn it up a "PROTECT" message comes up and turns it off ... Any thought's?

***UPDATE***

I think I figured it out ... I only have two speakers and were using both the "A" and "B" position on the back of the receiver ... once I put both speakers in the "A" position I can turn it up as loud as needed.

Glad you figured it out. You might look into something like the Chromecast Audio or a bluetooth receiver, or just a 3.5mm to rca cable.
If I went with that Bluetooth option could I just purchase the appropriate RCA connectors? Since that particular Bluetooth receiver is 3.5 I assume I could pop that into a female 3.5 to RCA and then into the back of the receiver?

That male 3.5mm connector you see is just a fitting inserted into the receiver, male 3.5mm on each end, (comes with that as well as a longer male to male 3.5mm cord). The receiver itself has a 3.5mm female so a typical 3.5mm male to dual rca male cord works great the way you want to connect to rca inputs on your receiver.

This receiver does not have a 3.5 connection ... the only connection is the giant "phones" option in the front ... the rest are RCA connections in the back... Am I missing something? ....... the 3.5 is the smaller one like the old iPhone correct? The "phones" connection I have in the front of the receiver is the larger "old school" head-phones connection.

I was referring to the Bluetooth receiver, sorry for the confusion; the 3.5mm size is typical of the port on many devices for headphones/stereo output. Just use a 3.5mm male to rcax2 male connector, from the bluetooth receiver to appropriate rca inputs on your audio receiver. The 1/4" headphone jack on the front of your audio receiver is an output, not an input in any case.
