It does look like there is a firmware update for my TX-NR1009 and others put out last week. I'll have to update mine when I get home.

Wow. That's poor QC.....
I don’t mind a firmware update, this seems the norm for everything now days. But sending your new receiver back for repair is another story. It doesn’t look like my TX-NR1009 is affected by this after checking my serial number on the web last night.

I was having issues with my 2010 Onkyo tx nr-708. It is in a repair shop now under warranty. Notice there is an obvious pattern here from Onkyo and the year this was built run around..Im afraid we may need to consider switching to Yamaha or Pioneer. I wish I had an expert response on my thread, because it seems that I got swindled by Onkoyo...A two year warranty is useless if it breaks every six months, I used my receiver far less than your usual music enthusiast. And the only reason it survived this long is because I was never around. I just checked the lamp hours on my projector, the Onkyo TX NR-708 couldn't even last 800 hours. 800 hours??? are you kidding me??? I got a Pioneer receiver in the 90's from a pawn shop, it still plays in my friends detached garage in the climate of Nebraska, overly humid summers and winter temps down to -20.

I couldn't agree with you more.
I have a 20 year old Fisher surround system in mothballs replaced by an Onkyo TX NR-807.
I blasted the bejeezus out of that system and it still works and never had issue one except the wifes complaints.:D
My onk junk is back in shop for visit #2 in 18 months:eek:
