ONKYO RZ50 vs integra drx 3.4

I am pretty new to the Home Theatre world.



So my needs are super simple. Movies and video Games

I have the following setup:

TV: LG CX OLED



- CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER Emotiva Airmotiv C2+ $403.85



- Current AVR / RECIEVER Yamaha RX-V681 7.2 Channel $270



- LR SPEAKERS Emotiva Airmotiv B1+ $268.85



- SUBWOOFERS SVS PB-1000 Pro x 2 $1,092.50



- REAR SPEAKERS NEUMI BS5 $100



I have my TV plugged directly into my PC, I do not have cable, and I download everything (movies & TV shows)

Is there some feature difference that leans you to one vs the other? They're just different branding of essentially same units, depending where in each lineup you compare.

I honestly just want to find out if I am going to be missing out if I go with the DRX 3.4

I cannot find the RZ50 in stock. So I bought the DRX 3.4 yesterday.

Just want to make sure I didn't make the wrong decision.

I haven't compared the differences myself, but if they're roughly equivalent from Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer then I wouldn't worry about it. It's mostly about a feature/connectivity/amp section choice....and a price difference for marketing perhaps.

The system I had set up for my dad went kaput about 2 weeks ago I ordered a DRX 2.4 I'll let you know how I like it when it's all set up

The DRX should work great for your usage
If you were blindfolded I doubt you could tell the difference between the DRX and the RZ50

Are the RZ50 and the DRX 2.4 relatively equivalent? I didn't look.....

No I think the 3.4 is closer but still its at least the version underneath his I would be able to give him some kind of feedback.

There top of the line 5.4 I think it is is only $2000 bucks. It's a really good price for everything it offers

So likely still really not a significant diference unless connectivity details or maybe amp details make some sort of difference....

The biggest differences between the DRX 3.4 and the OnkyoRZ50 is:


The RZ50 has 120W/CH
the DRX 3.4 has 100W/CH

The rz50 also has more preouts, and is also THX certified.

the DRX I believe is the cheapest AVR to offer Preouts. And I have no use for an External amp **Yet**
Also no THX certification.

SO i gues the biggest difference is the Wattage. and to my understanding you need to double the wattage to gain 3db increase ?? correct me if i am wrong.

So i assume the human ear will be unable to determine the difference between 120w and 100w.

I want to add that the RZ50 appears to have some issues with power limiting as well.

I wonder if the Integra suffers from this. To my knowledge, the Integra is supposed to be the installers choice, so top of the line for this brand. i wonder if it will also suffer form the power limiting issues. I hear that the ONkyo, pioneer and Integra are all made in the same factory.

No you won't be able to tell a difference from the power specs

Those power limiting specs can be tripped in testing but not so easily in real world usage you probably never will

And if you don't want to risk it use the preouts with a more powerful amplifier

You should be fine with the DRX test it out if it has a trial period and you don't like it send it back

Hey nice setup!

1 I'm a dog lover! Beautiful dogs! What are there names if you don't mind me asking?

2 at that distance from all the speakers your probably fine with just the avr I know the room is open but your seating spot with all speakers is not that great a distance I'd try just using the reciever only save you some money

3 however if you feel like you can't get the volume levels you want without distortion after using the reciever or your just really worried about the reciever having overagressive current limiting then I'd go with the Outlaw 5000 best value for 5 channel amp your going to get

I forgot to ask how loud are your listening levels if you don't like to crank it if you don't like to listen at reference I doubght your going to need an amp at all

In fact if you don't listen at reference down the road I'd invest more in a sub or 2 for the back wall instead of an amp better bass response way better dynamics take the load even more of your bookshelves. In that room with that size and space you have I can understand why you didn't go towers

Then just upgrade to more capable bookshelves if you get the itch.

That's what I would do in that space

Only then after all that would I splurge on an amp if I thought I needed it

That DRX should work great in that room!

Also one last question sorry do you ever plan on going to atmos? Or are you fine with just 5 channels?

I currently live in Guam, so we call the mutts, ‘Boonie’ So they are boonie dogs, happy to give them a warm place to sleep J



If I went with the Outlaw 5000, I’d only be using the DRX 3.4 as a processor essentially right? If I were to get a Amp, it would be a 3 channel, and I’d power the LCR. And have the AVR power my 2 rear receivers.

(Thoughts on the Emotiva Basx A3?????)



I definitely do not listen at reference levels. I do like my music loud though, but movies and games, not that loud.



I already have 2 subs, and youre saying get one or two more for the back wall ? WOW !!!

Maybe I should just move one sub to where my computer is located.



Atmos sounds amazing, but my current house is 100% concrete build, I don’t even know where to begin with that. So currently no, no plans. But I am military, and I will be moving in 2023. So anything is possible.

Yeah with the 5000 you'd use it as a prepro.

The Emotiva BasX x 3 would be a good way to go

Since you don't like to listen loud music a bit but really not that much I'd save your money and try it without an amp

I doubt you'll need one

Especially if this is only a current home save up to get what you really want when your in your permanent home I'd stay at 5.2 for now don't even worry about those extra subs

I can't help recommending more subs I'm an audioholic!
