Onkyo remote problem

I have an RC-693M dedicated remote for my SR705. The volume button does not work. I have tried a universal remote with the amp, and it works fine, so theres no problem with the amp. All the other remote buttons work other than the volume. I have done a reset and that makes no difference. Any ideas, or do I need a new remote?

yep,sounds like you have a gone-bad remote,I would either use the universal,or get a new one,a quick search and I see them going new for 50-$60.

I had this same problem and stumbled across a solution. It didn't make sense to me why only two buttons on an otherwise pristine remote went bad. Sure, maybe a faulty connection. When I read other posts, I wanted to determine if the remote was bad or the receiver was bad. With the receiver off, I tried all buttons on the remote and verified that they all activated the red light on the remote...except the volume, top menu and menu. I then pressed each remote mode button and tried those three buttons. Somewhere between pressing ZONE2 and RECEIVER, the volume buttons began to activate the red light on the remote. Somehow zone2 was turned on (fumbling in the dark at the receiver I guess). I can not say with absolute certainty that this was the problem, but the method I used may help diagnose your problem.
