so my reciever started to shut down 2 seconds after it powers on. its an Onkyo TX-SR502, about 4 or 5 months old.

the other night i was rehooking up my entire home theater setup. i'm not sure exactly what i was doing when it started doing this, but i do kno pretty much wut i did the few hours right before it decided to not work. i was working with the speaker wire, and a few times while it was on, the speaker wire came loose, so i just turned it off, and hooked it back in. also i was messing with the RCA cables, and i THINK i had it off while i was doing this, but i might have had it on, i'm not sure. besides those 2 things, i wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, i wasn't listening to it really loud, and i wasn't changing any settings.

can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong and how i should fix it?

thanks,
Blayne

You probably have a speaker wire crossing poles...

Check all your speaker connections as it can do it on the back of your speakers as well. Make sure no strands of wire are sticking out because all it takes is one little cross to cause a short.

i'm sorry, i 4got to mention i uplugged EVERYTHING except for the power cord lol. i loosened all the speaker screw-type things, and checked for random speaker-metal shards left inside, and theres nothing there...at least i didn't see anything.

Did you get a pop and some smoke? That has happened to me a few times...

The only thing I can think of right off the bat is something shorted inside, due to crossing, power surge, etc.

If it is still pretty new it should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. Onkyo's are good for 2 years parts/labor, so send that sum bich in.
(unless of course you bought it from an unauthorized dealer, thus causing your warranty to be void.)
