ONKYO Receiver TX-NR727 HDMI "Out Main" No Video Signal With Active Fiber Optic HDMI Cable

I have never experienced the following issue since owning this receiver for nearly two (2) years.

About a week ago, I powered down my ONKYO receiver (TX-NR727) and I disconnected all (HDMI) audio/video input/output cables connecting other devices (CBL/SAT, BD/DVD, Game and PC). The receiver remained powered down until yesterday (Nov 16, 2015). While the ONKYO was powdered down I relocated the unit further away from the television (from 10 feet to 50 feet). In it's new location, I reconnected all previously disconnected devices (CBL/SAT, BD/DVD, Game and PC) and speaker wire with the exception of the "Out Main" HDMI cable. In place of the shorter 25 foot HDMI cable that I was using, I used a new longer active fiber optic HDMI cable ("SlimRun™ AV Cable for HDMI Enabled Devices, 75 feet distributed by Monoprice) to contend with the distance (about 50 feet) between the television and the receiver.

When the receiver powered/powers on the "ONKYO" logo briefly displays (as usual) on my television screen, which is confirmation that a video signal is passing from the Onkyo's HDMI "Out Main" through the active fiber optic HDMI cable and to the TV. Once the Onkyo logo disappears there is no further video signal. Normal broadcast television and Blu-Ray/DVD audio can be heard via "CBL/SAT" or via BD/DVD when selected, BUT NO video signal displays. The other HDMI inputs (Game and PC) are all properly connected to the receiver, however the receiver is not sending a video signal out to the TV from either of those sources as well.

My initial thought was a possible hand shake issue but it seems less likely given some other observations. I've powered down and powered up the cable box, television and receiver in various order to see if it could fix the problem to no avail. I considered the possibility of a faulty active fiber optic HDMI cable so I disconnected the "SlimRun™ AV HDMI cable from the TX-NR727 "Out Main" and I connected the SlimRun HDMI cable directly to the HDMI out of the cable box (Comcast / Xfinity X1). Immediately after making the connection I could see a clear video signal going to the television with audio (1st confirmation that the SlimRun cable properly works). I disconnected the SlimRun from the cable box and I connected it directly to the HDMI out of my BD/DVD player (Sony). Immediately after making the connection I saw video and heard audio going to the television (2nd confirmation that the SlimRun cables properly works).

The SlimRun HDMI cable works therefore, I do not believe there is an issue with the cable itself and or the length of the cable given the SlimRun is an active fiber optic cable specifically designed for long HDMI cable runs.

Another peculiar observation, when the SlimRun HDMI cable is connected to the "Out Main" of the TX-NR727 and I power up the cable box following a shut down there is a video signal (3 - 6 minutes) coming from the cable box (Xfinity X1 platform) into the receiver and to the television advising me that the cable box is booting and the cable content will display once the system becomes available. However, once the cable box is ready and it begins to send broadcast television the video signal stops but the audio continues.

I connected a standard short length (4 foot) HDMI cable from the "Out Main" of the TX-NR727 to a computer monitor to test the output of the "Out Main" output and viola, I had reestablished my video signal. While connected to the computer monitor I successfully performed a firmware update hoping that would help resolve the issue with the SlimRun HDMI cable, but the firmware update did not fix the problem when I reconnected the SlimRun HDMI cable back into the TX-NR727 "Out Main" port.
I contacted Onkyo tech support. Tech support had me connect the SlimRun to the TX-NR727 HDMI "Sub Out" and my video signal returned. But the video signal would not transmit to the TV when the SlimRun was connected to the receiver's HDMI "Out Main". Tech support had me access the receivers' settings and make several changes (sorry, I can't remember all of the instructions that I was given) to the way the receiver processes the video signal but none of the suggested changes permitted the video signal to pass out of the TX-NR727's "Out Main".

I performed three (3) factory resets (CBL/SAT + Power Button, and disconnected the power for 15 minutes) and the issue remains.

Ultimately, Sony tech support informed me that they would need to further research the issue and get back to me.

Anyone familiar with this problem or know how it can be fixed?

Please help . . . your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lee

So your saying the setup works fine with another cable? From what I read you have a problem with that cable coming from that receiver.

Hi Isiberian, thanks for commenting. I considered what you said during my trouble shooting. To test the cable , I directly connected the same Slimrun active fiber optic cable to the receiver's "Sub Out", my cable set-top box, my Blu-Ray player, and my PC via the HDMI output on those devices and they ALL sent a video/audio signal through the cable to the TV, so I'm 100% certain the cable is working properly. For for some unknown or inexplicable reason the a video signal is not transmitting through the transceiver's "Out Main".
