Onkyo R520 matched with Infinity Betas

Alright, I know that the R520 (which is the receiver that comes with the Onkyo 770 HTIB) is not nearly driving the Betas anywhere near their potential.

But is it dangerous to be driving my Betas with this receiver at all? Currently, I have it hooked up with a 360 and 50s. I usually have the receiver turned up to anywhere between 30-50db. I have calibrated nothing yet.

What is the risk of clipping at these levels? Because I'm getting paranoid.

I plan to get rid of the R520 for the HK AVR635 this week, but until then...I'd like to continue with the R520 with some peace of mind.

How do you know this? The only concern you would have would be if the Infinity's are 4 Ohm speakers and you are trying to drive them at a high volume in a very large room; otherwise no problem.

Until you calibrate the system and listen for awhile, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the receiver and go out and buy another one.

I've brought the question up many times and it's simply widely agreed that the R520 isn't doing any justice to the power-hungry Betas.

Again if you haven't calibrated, you don't have any frame of reference to determine if it is doing them justice or not. More money has been wasted over the relentless upgrade pursuit under false pretenses than any other undertaking. It's entirely possible, even probable, that the problem lies with the speakers and room acoustics and not the receiver.
