I bought a onkyp pre pro the sc-886p . I have an old yamaha htr-6060. needless to say I am out of funds for a month or 2 and right now I can only have a 3.1 sound set up with my pre pro because lack of external power amps.

Can I take the back left and right and back sbl and sbr preouts from the 886 and run them with a rca cable to the multichannel input of the htr-6060 and use the yamaha to run the back 4 channels?

I am quessing I would just turn the yamaha on and set the channel trim so it is at zero the volume at zero and then adjust the sound with a spl meter using the 886p's trims(of course with the htr-6060 set to multichannel in?

Does this sound correct.

I only plan on doing this till I can afford a few more power amps.

I don't see any problems with using your Yamaha to power the rear and side speakers like that. My guess is that you'll need to have the volume on the Yamaha turned up pretty high. The volume knob is a resistor that attenuates the gain of the amplifiers, so to simulate a typical external amp, the volume knob will be turned up.
