I'm considering buying a amp to take some of the load off of my RX-V1500. I can't claim to have spent a lot of time researching my options, but rest assured I will.
The short time I have spent has resulted in the realization that most 2 channel amps sell for $400 minimum.
I'd like to pose this question: Why shouldn't I go for the M-282? I can pick one of these up for a little more than $200. I've had nothing but good experiences with Onkyo in the past.
Pretty open ended question, I know. I guess that's the idea.
Options please.

It looks like a capable little amplifier, worth a try for the money. Should work just fine.

Excellent Thread, I am also looking at the M-282 to see if it fills my bill. Currently, I am powing my Boston Acoustic VR14 with a Carver M-1.5t and using a Yamaha receiver as a pre-amp. However, the Carver is on its last legs and has been repaired twice and this time it is taking a trip to the junkyard. Anyways, I am looking for a reasonable cost replacement and the Onkyo M-282 keeps coming up in my frugal price range. I am not sure if it will perform close to what I have been experiencing with the Carver...Well atleast when the Carver was working corectly.

I have since then purchased the M282. While I do like it, I doubt it will perform as well as a Carver. I have stated that I believe it helps the sound of my system, I have it driving my fronts which I think allows my receiver to give more life to the surrounds. However, in fairness, 2 knocks against it: (1) It is non-bridgeable in that you cannot combine the two channels into one to for example power the center channel. (2) I'm doubtful it would perform well with low efficiency speakers. Onkyo does not even give specs for 4 ohm performance.

The M282 meets my needs very well. But it may not be an end-all solution for everyone.

Well luck has been on my side!! :D :D After posting my question I went back to take a double look at the amplifier. After 30 minutes of dissembling I found that the Monster Cable from the receiver pre-outs to the amplifier were faulty. Once the cables were replaced everything was sounding just perfect. Apparently, the rubber grip on each connector had deteriorated over the past 8 years causing a slight loss of signal though the left channel. It just shows that you should always check your connections…at least twice in my case. Thankyou, for the response and I have to agree that the Onkyo would help but it would not equal the Carver.
