Onkyo HT SR-700 - Cablebox Issue with Optical Input

Hi All,

Just purchased the Onkyo HT SR-700 system as my first home theater/sound system. I have it all hooked up and my PS3 audio through the optical channel 2 is working fine. My problem is that when I run the cable box audio through it with another Optical cable all I get is static on the channel. I tried switching the cable to see if that was the issue, but that didn't resolve it either. I have tinkered around in the setting for both the receiver and cable box and cannot figure out why I am only getting static. I did not run the component video cable through the receiver, would that cause this issue? I wouldn't think so but I am relatively new to all of this. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

To help troubleshoot this, have you tried connecting the cable box optical cable into the same input on the receiver as the one that you used successfully for the PS3? If not, give it a go. That can help narrow down if it's the cable box or the receiver.

If it's the cable box, then you should be able to swing a replacement if you're just renting it from your cable company.

Got it!

Adam,

Thanks for the reply. I had tried that but then I found it down in the bowels of my cable box setting. Not very intuitive. This one feature had to be set to "Other" so that was what seemed to be causing the issue. Now its time to try to calibrate it all and have some fun.

Thanks again!!!

Matt, fantastic! I'm glad that you found it. Much, much easier than having to get a new box. Have fun getting everything set up!
