<font color='#000000'>Hey whats up people?

Its my first time posting on this sight. I am about to buy a home theatre system and was intrested in the &quot;outa box&quot; packahes. &nbsp;I read up on the sony, panasonic and JVCs, but none of them seem to get great reviews. &nbsp;I am looking to spend under $800. &nbsp;Anyways, the onkyo HT-S767C seems to get good reviews, is loud, is a 5 disc mp3/cd/dvd and comes with a good set of speakers. &nbsp;Anything better out there for a meduim size bedroom. &nbsp;I love to listen to music more then DVDs but will use both quite a bit. And I will hook it up to my pc to play mp3s / computer games. &nbsp;Do you guys think this is a good choice, another package, or should I mix and match a dvd player, amp and speakers....Any advice would be great.

Thanks</font>

<font color='#0000FF'>Onkyos are nicely cosntructed and if you like their sound, go ahead and buy it. There are also quite a few similar models from Yamaha in the same price range you are looking for and I suggest you give them an audition too.

If you are willing to take a few features out, there are lots of nice DTS capable reveivers on the market which have been discontinued by the manufacturers and are available at a good bargain. Seperates route is always though not neccesarily better but it would raise the costs substantially.</font>

<font color='#000000'>thanks for the quick reply yamaha

I will check out some of the yamaha stuff but I just keep hearing that yamahas speakers are never great quality. &nbsp;And I figure the more features the better, + I dont have the time, $$$, or exprience to match up seperates...Unless I hear big negatives (have not so far) this onkyo seems pretty cool. &nbsp;Although it sucks i cant find one on ebay, yet.</font>

<font color='#0000FF'>One quick word of advice, since sound is a matter of personal perception and &nbsp;taste, never hear others, hear for yourself and be the judge.

Yamaha makes monitor speakers which are used by leading studios across the world. As a matter of fact, 177000 NS-10M are in use worldwide by recording artists and musicians alike. NS-1000x were rated to be one of the all time great speakers. While it is true and a sad aspect that Yamaha decided to market only their lower end speakers in the US, many in Europe and Asia are enjoying their reasonably priced giant killer speakers like the NS-300 and NS8HX which just won the coveted Japanese Grand Prix 2003 award. The NS-200 speaker from Yamaha was rated five stars among a illustrious company of B&amp;W and Sonus Faber.

Just like Yamaha, B&amp;W, JBL and other great speaker manufacturer use their name and market junk speakers at a low cost. In this feild, it is the standard survival tactic and even in other feilds, companies like Nikon and Minolta market their low priced point and shoot using their pro camera reputation, people buy and Nikon point and shoot after they see a pro photographer using F-4/5.

In the end, let your ears be the judge.

Onkyo speakers arent bad as they are mostly sourced from SONY, especially their high end speakers. &nbsp;

<font color='#000000'>Thanks for the advice. &nbsp;Yes, I think you are right, it is about personal prefrence... I think I am just not quite confident with my ears yet to base a purchase on it. &nbsp;Even though I listen to a lot of music I am not alawys quick to tell the diffrences between a great and not so great audio set up. &nbsp;No matter what I will obvioulsy listen to the set up before I buy it and compare it to others I listen to. &nbsp;

thanks</font>

<font color='#000000'>Well here is my thoughts and experience.

HTIB is not the greatest thing in the world.  My first AC3/Dolby Digital theater was Pioneer HTIB and it sucked so bad it went back the next day.  My old POS RCA pro-logic and full size speakers did a much better job.

Cost-Co has a nice set of afforadable &quot;David&quot; speakers.  Give them a listen, for the money I thought they looked and sounded pretty good.

Combine that with these, (or some of the other cost-co stuff)

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=113133

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=144989

and your off to the races.  Ecost has some good deals on older THX elite stuff too (sub 300).  I've bought from Ecost and have had no issues with them.  It's a pretty good deal.

I find the speakers they usually ship in HTIB are total junk.

You do want to be able to set your crossover to 100hz.
Go to a mid-fi shop and ask them to play a chunk of your fav movie (90 seconds or so) on a midrange setup with the crossover set to 80, then again at 100, then again at 150, then again at 200, and at last back to 80 one more time.  I think you'll find you don't want tiny satilite speakers (unless space is a concern).

While your at the mid-fi shop check the used and abused rack,  sometimes you can great deals there too.

Don't be afraid to mix and match brands.  I fell into the all one brand trap too, it sucked and I learned, I couldn't get everything done on one remote.  You'll find the HTIB will might come with two remotes as well (DVD and Reciver, like the Pioneer HTIB did).</font>

<font color='#000080'>For lower price points, I really like Yamaha and Denon receivers. Bang for the buck and the features/ease of use is above average.</font>

I Agree With That

I'M OWNER OF A PAIR OF NS-300 ($800 A PAIR HERE IN MEXICO) SPEAKERS AND WHEN I BOUGHT THEM I COMPARED AGAINST B&W CM4 ($1,800 A PAIR HERE IN MEXICO). THE B&W SOUNDED TERRIFIC BUT THEY COST 2 TIMES MORE AND THEY DIDN´T SOUNDED 2 TIMES BETTER. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN MY NS-300 WAS THE BASS RESPONSE. I CORRECT IT WITH A SUBWOOFER.
SO I EXPENDED $600 LESS.
CONCLUSION: SOME FIRMS ABUSE OF THEIR "NAME" AND SELL TO YOU HIGH QUALITY ITEM AT A SUPER HIGH QUALITY PRICE. THAT'S WHY I PREFER A ULTRA HIGH QUALITY SPEAKER FROM A NEW COMPANY, BECAUSE THIS NEW COMPANY HAS TO BUILD A REPUTATION AND HAS TO WIN MARKET QUOTE.
THEY NEED TO BUILD EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS AT A REASONABLE PRICE IN ORDER TO INCREASE THEY´RE SALES (LIKE PARADIGM DID), SO I THINK YAMAHA IS MAKING THEIR BEST SPEAKERS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF THAT REASON.
