Onkyo HT-S7300's Receiver vs. other Onkyo Receivers...

I recently purchased a nice 7 piece definitive technology system and wanted to get an Onkyo receiver. I saw that the Onkyo 7300 has a decent receiver, RC260, and only costs $650 for the 7300 system in a box right now. Would the receiver be worth it or should I aim for the Onkyo sr808 range for a receiver? Is there a big difference in receivers?

The RC260 is similar to the TX-SR608. Generally the RC versions will be missing minor a feature or two. If you live in the US refurbished TX-NR708 and TX-NR808 are pretty reasonable. The 708 adds Audyssey MultiEQ and is well worth spending a bit more. Other than a little bit more power I'm not sure what the 808 offers that the 708 doesn't. If you don't need 3D you can save even more by buying last year's TX-SR707 or TX-NR807 (N=network ready).

Only thing I was thiniking was that those amps cost around $500-$600. For $650.00, I could buy the Onkyo 7300 box kit and get a receiver to use plus an extra set of speakers too. Is the receiver that crappy that it would be worth spending the same amount of money on just a receiver?
