Hello all av enthusiasts,

After looking for quiet a while came across theses two in my budget.

Onkyo HT-S4505

Yamaha YHT-397bl

My preference is movies 90% and music 10%.

My room size is 11`x 14`.

Ive googled a few pages and read that onkyo speakers generally suck but the receivers are great and the yamaha is more geared towards music than movies. Is that a myth?

Please suggest.

Thank you

So many days have passed and still no owners of these two.

Please suggest.

While im not a fan of any brand but reading few sites and all i found that yamaha is also scoring well in the reliability corner whereas onkyo is suffering from heating and blowing issues.

I'm more concerned about sound quality, its a pity the city i live in doesnt have any place to demo these models

I don't think that the receiver makes a lot of difference for sound in a movies vs music comparison. That is more of a concern when determining speakers/subs.

To pick a receiver you simply have to look at the bells and whistles you are interested in. General consensus is that onkyo has great value for the gadgets you get and yamaha has better stability just like you said. It boils down to whether or not you are willing to risk a receiver that may overheat.

If you are using the receiver for mostly movies I don't think you will need to worry about it overheating much, I find that happens with loud music more often the not.
