Onkyo CR-315 sound volume

Hi! I'm thinking about bying an Onkyo CR-315 (CDplayer-reciever). I don't have the oppurtunity to test-listen it, but from what I've read about it it seems all right. But the thing is that I'm some one who doesn't like to listen very loud, often I use my Sennheiser phones. And I've found that some of the mini-systems aren't good or even capable of playing low sound volumes. (like the one I have now)

So, I was just wondering if any one knows about the sound volume of Onkyo CR-315? Can you play it low?

Joe Schmoe would likely have an answer to this question. From what he says the Onkyo CD/receivers are quite good. I am using a comparable Teac CD/receiver and I think it's wonderful. Teac, Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo all compete in the CD/receiver market. I think it's a very nice type of product.

I don't know about that particular unit but Onkyo receivers include what they call Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry with the stated goal of making the audio clear at low volumes.

It works for me. As the night goes on and I'm slowly falling asleep I tend to turn the volume lower and lower. I can still hear it clearly with the volume set as low as 6. In the daytime you can't hear it at all at that level but with headphones I would think it would be fine.

Thanks for replying, both of you. Most helpfull.

Seth=L, yes, I've noticed those brands have similar products (the reason I'm leaning towards the Onkyo is because I can get it used pretty cheap). Have you compared them, or what made you choose the Teac?

I got the Teac for $70, with speakers (sold those for $20). I believe the system retailed for close to $400, mine was refurbished and loved how it looked.:D

oh, that's a much better deal than what I'm looking at - $ 200 for the receiver, with speakers. It's supposed to be practically unused. Would that be paying much too much?

Do you know anything about Denon DM-33, or Kenwood K-711 -- those seem to be the cheapest to buy new?

I don't think it's too much, they are very sturdy. I am very surprised at the build quality of the Teac. One thing I like about the Onkyo is that they use discrete output devices. The Teac uses a integrated circuit for output. The Teac runs very cool due to the efficiency of the integrated circuit output design, it's likely the Onkyo will not keep as cool. I prefer discrete output though.
