I'm on a budget and would like to get the most for my money, but I'd like to get something more. System is 60% movies and 40% music. I'd like your opinions on the speaker setups of the following 3: Onkyo 780HTS, Athena Technology Micra 6, and Wharfedale Movie Stars 70. All of these are around $500 -- if there are any other suggestions in this price range, please suggest. I don't have a receiver , so any suggestions would be welcomed.

I cant help you with a comparison but I can tell you you can get the Athena Micra 6 from Audio Advisor for 299.88. I just ordered a set due tomorrow for 316 shipping and all. I will let you know how it sounds when I get it hooked up.

$500 options

HSU STF1 + ventriloquist = $500 + shipping.
Another option is 2 pairs Athena Audition AS-B1s, 1 Athena AC-C1 and a cadence X-sub for $500. You can also find the BIC Venturi bookshelf speakers in the same price range.

In the $300 range, however, the Micras are your best bet.

As I have said I havnt got my system up and running yet but I ordered the Pioneer VSX-815 yesterday and should get it after Christmas. The Pioneer I found for $230.60 shipped from Data Vision. I spent a lot of time doing excactly what you are doing. Researching.

Best of luck.:)

There are a lot of combinations out there with, at times a bit overwhelming. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. How did you come across this combination. What are the room dimensions?

It is VERY overwhelming to me. I am new to this whole process and really didnt understand any of the technical aspects of the equipment(or very little) and I used forums such as this, audioreviews and AVS to ask questions and then do research on the answers and comments from the various forums. There are some good reviews on a lot of these sites as well. Also here on Audioholics there is a page where they help you build the best HT for a certain budget. Well the Micra 6 and the Pioneer were both recomended for the $1000 budget.

Once I figured out the best equipment for my purposes I uses shopzilla and various other shopping services to pinpoint the lowest price for the equipment including shipping and tax. In all I would say I spent 30+ hours on the net just researching and trying to understand the equipment. Check out some of the advice I got on my reciever and DVD players on this site and check on Audioreviews forum under the same name to see the input I received.

By the way my room is 10 x 14. I hope I helped some.
