This unit looks quite promising. I have to admit I really like the feature set and the price.

The amp seems more robust than the TX-8050 I'm using which is rated at 80wpc. I bet the street price is gonna be 350 to 400 which is gonna make it a very sweet deal.

Personally, I would stick with the Yammy or the HK

But the Yamaha does not have the digital inputs. Nor does HK offer an affordable integrated amp option.

This is also the first integrated amp besides NAD's C356 DAC module to offer digital inputs at an affordable price. I hope more companies follow this trend. :D

HK 3490??? $289
From amazon:
The HK 3490 offers the best in traditional analog two-channel audio, including a 30-preset AM/FM tuner, an integrated phono preamplifier and a tape monitor loop that lets you listen to your tape recordings as they’re being made, while adding digital audio inputs,

Amazon.com: Used and New: Harman Kardon HK 3490 120 Watt Stereo Receiver

Perhaps you haven't seen this one? They list it as a "stereo receiver".

Yes, I hope more companies follow this trend too.

Oh I have. I have owned it as well. It's a great unit. But my post is referring to integrated amps. The HK is not an integrated amp. :) Some people just dislike receivers so this is a nice affordable integrated amp for someone wanting digital input options.

I gotcha. I guess this isn't really an integrated amp b/c it has the tuner built in? Or is there something else I'm missing here?

Bonus, a decent MM phono input, same stage used on the more expensive models, according to Onkyo it's the same stage on most if not all models. Very interesting product at the street price you mentioned. I like it. :D
Cheers Jeff ;)

No you got it. Traditionally if there is a tuner it becomes a receiver. Integrated amps are typically amp/pre-amp only.

I know some people believe the tuner section will create interference/noise in the pre-amp section. I have no idea if there is any truth behind this notion (or if shielding is used between tuner and pre-amp sections). I can say I've never had this problem with my receivers.

The first manufacturer to offer a stereo integrated amp or receiver with digital inputs and bass management for under a grand gets my money!

Or you could just get an AV receiver with digital inputs and bass management for under 1K and accomplish the same thing. ;)

Tell me about it- I have 4 ht AVR's, 2 of which pull 2.1 duty. I still would love to have a purpose built 2.1 integrated amp with digital inputs

The a9070 seems like a great unit but it runs a lot more than the a9050. For some reason Onkyo USA doesn't seem to have the specs for the unit but you can find it online in the US for around $1200: Amazon.com: Onkyo A9070 Stereo Integrated Amplifier: Electronics

The a9050 is listed at $500.Onkyo A-9050 Integrated Stereo Amplifier is IN STOCK at OneCall.com
I have noticed the prices on this new A series from Onkyo don't get discounted like the HT and TX stereo receivers. I was hoping these would have a cheaper street price.

@ahblaza: totally agree. These seem like great units and the prices are good for what they offer. I've had my eye on them for a while. The a9070 has what looks to be a really good headphone amp as well (very cool feature); the power specs on both are impressive as are the digital inputs.

I really, really want one but I really don't need one. So is the audioholic 12 step program supposed to get you to buy things that are totally cool you don't need? If so, sign me up, :D

I hear you my friend, isn't that the case with everything we do, want but don't need....I currently am working a twelve step program, alcoholism and audioholism, one day at a time....;)

I bought it (A-9050) just a few days ago, and ... In short - I am delighted with the quality and power of sound! Paired with my speakers AE 120 he sounds - perfect! I've read a tons of reviews, researched opinions, because my friend has some other Onkyo and I liked Onkyo sound from before. Enough has been written in media about that the amplifier is poorly in low ranges, there is no resolution. Well, I risked and bought it even without trying it in market! And now, after years of listening to music in casual way, now I sit back and take out CDs and old records and listen to them seriously - as if they first listen. So, I recommend this Onkyo a-9050 (for this money)!
