i cant descied... is there something that the 876 offers that would offset the $600 price jump... ??

here is what i do need..

at least multi zone audio (one for living room and one for patio)
HDMI inputs
HD radio would be nice (i think only the 876 has a built in tuner)

i havent picked out the speakers it will be driving yet, more than likely some towers from NHT or Ascend and a svs sub...

thanks everyone for their feedback... just from reading the specs on the 806 it looks like it is a phenominal deal considering its under $1000 and the features it has. i am excited to upgrade from my tx777...

There has been several dicussions here about the new *06 line of Onkyo receivers so you would find alot in doing a forum search on this model.

However, the short of it is that the 806 was a substantial step down from the 805 in many ways. So I would advise against buying the 806....the biggest downgrade that Onkyo made was in the amp section which was much more robust in the 805....

The biggest step up in the 876 is the amp section along with the added video processing and calibration. But not sure if you would have any need for those...

If your budget cannot accomodate the 876 then I would definitely look at other more compentent models from Pioneer, Yamaha, and Denon....that will be better than the 806...

I own an 805 and I agree w/ Chopin Guy that the 806 is a downgrade from the 805. eBay usually has some open box new 805s for sale. Might even find an 875 there which is worth the extra money over an 805.

I have owned several Denon avrs. I like thier sound better than the Onks, but not by much. Denons also have a better build quality than the Onks, but, again, not by much. This is why they cost a bit more than Onks. However, Denons are a pain in the *** to set up and operate for home theater. The User Manuals might a well have been written in Japanese.

Def check out comparable Yamahas, Pioneers, Outlaw and Emotiva. Harmon Kardons have a good rep, but they are underpowered if you are gonna run large front left & right speakers.

600 dollars? you need better sources.

How about those for under 1000.

Heck you can get the 806 for 550

Buy your receiver there and then you can add a warranty for like 80 dollars for several years.

what do you mean. The receivers suggested in my link all do an excellent job.

The 806 may not be the 805 but it's not terrible.

This is a no brainer. Pick up the 875 at the link above and you will get a sick deal on a great receiver.

I just looked up the system in your signature. And find any receiver in this price range to be a waste of money. I suggest you consider upgrading your fronts instead.

for 1000 you can almost get a pair of take floorstanders.
