Hi,

I am new to the forum. I browsed the section before posting but could not find an answer to my question.

Kindly advise whether Onkyo TX-SR806 or Denon 2309CI would be sufficient for Klipsch RF83 speakers. Unfortunately I cannot post a link to the speakers specs.

If there are better receivers within the same price range, please name them.

Hi kolklin,

Very efficient speakers...I would think either of those receivers would drive them easily in your average room. Denon is well regarded on this forum and Onkyo has a nice following also.

Thank you for your input!

I am almost done with the audio set but I am confused about the cables.

What cables do I need for a system that consists of
- Plasma HD TV (HDMI input and other s)
-TV digital box (Motorola)
- DVD/CD player (Pioneer)
- Speakers (Klipsch R83)
- Receiver (Denon 989)

Your advice about the cables I need would be appreciated.

Also, I am confused whether it is worth buying expensive cables like “Monster”. I read through a heated discussion between Future Shop and audiophiles who insisted that it is senseless to invest into something like Monster cables as a regular person would never hear the difference.

I am just thinking about nightmare of connecting all the stuff together…….

DON'T BUY MONSTER - Over-hyped/priced. We tend to recommend monoprice.com or bluejeanscable.com around here for bang/$$ cables.

If your TV digital box (Motorola)/DVD/CD player (Pioneer), model #s would help, support HDMI connections then those would be the way to go for all your sources. Otherwise we may be looking at component video/digital audio connections.

Pioneer DV-46AV. Yes, it supports HDMI.

The choice is great. What parameters or criteria should I consider while choosing HDMI cables?

From my far from complete understanding of the issues, if you're looking at a 3 or 6 foot run, pretty much anything will do. If you have a long run, like thru walls & ceilings, then you need to be more careful.

Do I understand right that since my R83 has four connectors on the back, Belden 5000 won't work for me and I need Canare 4S11 ("star quad" 14-gauge cable, with four conductors together)? We are talking about Blue Jeans cable.

The Belden 5000 is fine. The 4-posts (2-pair +/-) on the speakers are for bi-amp/wiring which adds no additional benefit.

Finally, I’ve connected all the components and turn it on for the first time. Just listened to the music since it is the main idea of the whole enterprise.

The speakers sound different than in the store. I would say they sound is more flat. Probably some adjustments should be made but what?

I tried to use Audyssey mike to make Auto setup for optimum sound level but all the way get error message that Audyssey mike is not connected or left speaker is not properly connected. It looks like both are connected.

Do I need the auto setup? Are there any advantages?

To get more dynamic sound, should I make any adjustments like moving the speakers or turning on various modes in the receiver?

BTW, some banana plugs of the speakers cables that I ordered from Blue Jeans are a little loose (red) while others (black) are extremely tight. Is it normal?

I had the same problem when setting up my Onkyo 876. If you are using a 5.1 speaker configuration, then make sure you are using the FRONT L & R, and the SURROUND L & R (not the SURROUND REARs). Once I made that adjustment, the Audyssey auto setup worked perfectly. System sounds great.

Here's my own question: Why can't any receivers play digital audio to Zone 2?

When it comes to cables most of us here look to one of two places. BlueJeans or MonoPrice both have excellent cables at great prices. Unless you are running very long runs, 50 feet or more, just about any HDMI cable should be good enough for the job. Don't waste your money on expensive cables, it's not worth. And yes, you will spend less including shipping buying online then you will go to the store

I just put in an order for 3 six foot HDMI cables from Blue Jeans and it was less than one of the expensive store ones.

All of a sudden the Audyssey started working. I did not make ANY changes but now it works.

When it first worked, I thought that something wrong was happening to the speakers. The sounds were really strange.

So, I have made auto setup but still fighting through the manual - what's next; how to use the setup; what various modes produce and so on. Honestly, the manual to the receiver could be a little more descriptive.

I am not quite sure but the speakers started sounded a little different and I LIKE the sound. I would be really happy if I could understand more about the receiver abilities but it takes time....
