I'm probably a bit slow in finding it, but I've been looking for the 875 and finally found it for sale tonight. Onecall.com has it.

Now, I just have to wait for the price to come down. The 805 is selling for about $900 at most places, but this model is $1600 at Onecall. I had decided to hold out and get the 875 instead of the 805, but with a $700 difference, I've got some rethinking to do. I'll wait and see what happens with the price once other stores start to get it.

Thats pretty good news. I am interested in the new line of Onkyo's not for myself but for my father. It just a hard decision on which one to recommend.

They are essentially the same receiver with a different video processing section. The TX-SR875 may have some other additional features, but they are the same exact weight.;) (I know, weight doesn't mean everything, but this is to coincidental to just overlook.)

Seth=L (or anyone), what do you think of the value of the amplifier Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry in the 875? That feature is not in the 805.

I'm just trying to filter out if the video processing is the only meaningful difference between the two for me. While I would like 1080p upscaling, I don't need it. Well, I don't need another receiver...but enough of that talk.

A lot of people were able to pre-order the 875 for WAY cheaper than $1600. Actually, I have a 905 on preorder for $1600.

HD source

FYI,
You might consider saving $700 on the receiver and getting an HD source like HD-DVD or BluRay. Native HD material will look better than SD cable or DVD material with any high end upscaling. You also need a 1080p display to take full advantage of the video processing in the new Onkyo.

I'm curious as to the difference between the faroudja and the reon.
Is it a noticeable difference? and are these engine used for just scaling or deinterlacing as well.

The Faroudja scales 480i to 480p. The Reon scales any rez to 1080p.

My Oppo 981HD has Faroudja and upconverts an interlaced dvd from 480i to 1080p. I think the difference between Reon and Faroudja is age of technology and the quality of upconversion.

the faroudja chips have problems with macroblocking. What gets me is, why are manufacturers continuing to use this chip if it obviously has a problem? for instance, denon. May they think it isn't as big of a deal or your common joe won't even notice it or know what it is. Who knows what goes through their head in the conference room :)

Macroblocking Enhance is really only a problem on certain displays. DLP's are very prone to this problem, I haven't had any problems with it on my CRT, and I know a few people with faroudja who use LCD's with no MB.

i think the consensus is that the problem is there. Depending on your display and whether it is calibrated will determine how bad it shows. You may not be seeing it but it doesn't mean it ain't there :)
