First off: Happy New Year to you!!!!!

My initial plan was to use my NAD T773 to power my surrounds & to buy a new pre-pro for the new audio formats & a few bells & whistles. However the NAD has given me nothing but problems & after being in for repair already, (that's a story for another day!!) I've lost all confidence in the piece. My game plan has now changed.

So, it's time for a new receiver & I like the Onkyo TX-SR806. But from reading the specs, it doesn't mention anything about being able to handle a 4ohm speaker load. Pioneer Elite also looks very nice but again no mention of handling a 4ohm load. The new unit only has to power my surrounds (Polk LSiFX) speakers. I have a dedicated amp for my mains & center. I really just need a new unit for the new audio formats & a few bells & whistles & to power the LSiFX speakers. Any other AVR suggestions you might throw my way would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 806 is fine for your surround channels but if you still worry then get the 876. I am sure the 876 can handle 4 ohm speakers especially if it only has to feed the rear channels. It also has the Reon for superior video processing if you need it. If you don't need the Reon then I think the 3808 will more likely get you trouble free performance for years. The 3808 is not officially rated for 4 ohms but if you write to them about your applications I am sure they will tell you it is okay. Their FAQ does say all their units can be used with 4 ohm speakers.

Onkyo's previous year's model, the TX-SR805, is virtually superior in every possible way to the TX-SR806. I know that sounds crazy, but it's got a better amplifier and better DACs. The TX-SR806 isn't worth consideration if you can find a TX-SR805. Another bonus of the TX-SR805 is that it's lost costly.;) Did I mention it can run 4 ohm loads with no problems?
