Looking to get the Onkyo TX SR805 receiver, but need to pair some speakers with it. Currently only looking to go 5.1 and I've narrowed it down to Polk or Klipsch speakers. Any recommendations? Or if you have another speaker brand that's comparable that'll be welcome too. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Those speakers sound very different from each other. Try to listen to them and decide for yourself.

I personally don't care for Klipsch. But that's just my opinion.

There are tons of speakers out there. Take your time.

I have 805 with Polk rti8's. It is a very nice combo. rti8's shines with onkyo 805.

I have NHT Classic 3's for the 2 fronts and Center with a SVS Sub. For the 2 surrounds I put into the ceiling 2 NHT in wall speakers. Sounds great with my 805

Try to think of this in another way!!! Research and listen to speakers first and find what you like and get the receiver second.

I wish I could

That's a more legit approach but that's not the situation I'm in. I can't really find anyone in my area that has either speakers on display to try. This blows.

Maybe you should look at different speakers then. Do you want speakers that are bright/accurate, neutral, bass heavy etc

Thought about that, but...

I kept getting advice for those two brands. I'm looking for a nice balanced sound. Mostly will be used for HD movies and music. The room is average size (living room). Cost is a bit of concern because I splurged on the TV.

Same boat

Having the same problems. Getting an 805, and need a matching 7.1 set. Only speakers around me to listen to are Klipsch, and not the line that I can afford. I have been recommended to get the RF-52 series, but the Axiom Epic 50 looks attractive too.
No real hurry, but I am very frustrated that I may just need to go by other's recommendations.
At least I can demo the Klipsch or Axioms, just need to pay return shipping if I don't like.
