Onkyo 805 LFE Intermittent

I have recently reset up my entire system do to a move to a new location and my 805 seems to not always be utilizing my subs. I have noticed that sometimes they are active and other times they are not. It does not necessarily matter which processing mode that I am in. I am wondering if it would in some way be determined by the input from either my cable box or my PS3 (more noticably on different video games). I have gone through all my menu functions and from my best knowledge everything is set up correctly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jeff

The Infinity subwoofers use an auto turn-ON circuit.
If there is no LFE signal the subwoofer will shutdown..
A possible solution is to put the AVR subwoofer setting on L/R + LFE, then a signal will always be outputted through the AVR's Subwoofer Out.

Just my $0.00... ;)

A lot of TV programming just doesn't have significant low bass.

What you can try is to set the LFE gain on the receiver as higher, and proportionately lower the gain on the sub itself. This way your still have your desired output, but the incoming signal will be stronger, therefore giving your sub a better chance at detecting it.

Some subs have much shorter standby periods (or whatever it's called), before shutting down. I had one that was a half hr I believe (and I'd hear it click off during some nonLFE drama), and my brother's cheapo is only about 15 min. Interestingly, I was just very recently appreciating that with my new DIY sub with outboard amp, there is never any auto shutoff, hehe.
