Onkyo 804 vs Harman Kardon 645

Seriously, I have no life.
Sound and Vision did a bench test with 5 channels driven on the Onkyo 804 and concluded a maximum of 56 wats per channel before safety clipping was engaged.

Now, on the HK they CLAIN a maximum of 75 wats per channel with ALL SEVEN channels driven is correct.

I listened to both for a long time and I am sure the HK 645 is stronger and cleaner at high volumes. 19 wats per channel is clearly a huge difference with 3 or more speakers driven.
Oh, but when will all 5 channels need full power at the same exact instant? I have yet to see music or movie program with that signal to all channels at the same time. And, it doesn't take much time difference between channels to recharge the caps for the next round. So, an all channel test is really useless. Having that perceived 19 watts/ch when there is no such program material to demand it is not really important. What matters more is 1 ch or 2 ch power performance, frequency response linearity, THD+N, etc.
after that, if that is not important, preference matters:D

You may want to research this a bit further. The AVR340 has higher multichannel output (measured) than any of the receivers you mentioned from either Yamaha or Denon except for the 3805 from Denon. Check out HT's website and look at the numbers yourself. As for the RXV657, you can check the specs for that one on S&V's website. Both the 330 and 630 are old models in the audio world. I understand that the models you mentioned from Yamaha and Denon are also old models, but if you look at the Denon 2107, which is direct decendant of the 2105, it doesn't have the output of the 340, and if you look at Yamaha's 661, it's in the same ballpark as it's grandpa the 657. Also, the HK 340 is a discontinued item, replaced by the 347. I 'm not saying HK is the be all and end all of AVR's. Like I said before, they have been playing catch up for some unkown reason, especially when it comes to features, but when it comes to the amp section itself and the quality of the sound, they can go toe to toe with any of these guys.
I'll take your word for it regarding the 340, but as you noted I was talking about the older models, mainly the 630 vs 3805 etc.

By the way, I am not sure whether the 2105 or 2305 is the price equivalent of the 330, but I do remember the 330's protective circuit shut the unit down at pretty low level relative to the Yammie 657 (I am not 100% about the model no.) when driving a 4 ohm load. I hope the 34X series don't have the same limitation. In general, old model or new, you will find that HK models typically output what they specify. However, if you look at it from a $/W standpoint, they don't do near as well; and that's the point I was trying to make. Other than that, I fully agree with you, HK models definitely can go toe to toe with Yamaha and Denon's price equivalent models. The AVR7300 used to be my dream receiver, until I decided to go with a separate amp instead.

Well I guess nobody wants my Onkyo 804 for a cheap price. It's in new condition with all accessories in perfect shape.
