Do you guys think I can power my 5 channel system with out any issues, my front 3 speakers are PSB Image 6T Towers and 6C Center, along with my MB Quart Balcony Rears speakers with the 708 Onkyo. All will be crossed over and tied in with my dual ED subs.

Thanks

Jeff

How many meters are you from your speakers?

Do you listen loud or normal?

I like to have around 30db of headroom for maximum dynamics, but it's an ideal not entirely required.

That's around 105db

Your speakers have a 91 db sensitivity. You double power for every 3 db.

32 watts get you peak THX reference at 1 meter. For every meter back you double the wattage

64 watts at 2 meters, 128 watts at 3 meters, 256 watts at 4 meters.

If you are sitting within 10 of your speaker feet you can get THX peak reference with no issues from the 708 receiver. Beyond that external amplification might help. It might be a complete waste too. Since that is very loud.

What is the size of your room?

I will be sitting about 3 meter from the mains. I will have them crossed over about 80hz roughly. The room is very large though....20' x 40' x 13' but it is closed in so atleast it will not be open to the entire house.

Another option I have is to keep my Onk 805 in my HT and use the 708 for my family room system which will power my MB Quarts and utilize my XPA-3. My only concern is does the 708 had the same bass management that my 805 has?? I use it to crossover and increase gain for my Dual Eclipse subs. The bass management was the only reason I was opting to move my recievers around anyways..... Let me Update my signature to make it less confusing....

The 805 is more robust amp, but either will work fine at 3 meters. I would expect very similar management systems from both. I think the 708 has more hdmi inputs, but I'm pretty certain the 805 has more power. This is only necessary if you listen at THX levels. Very few people listen that loudly to anything.

You can sit 8 meters back and still get average maximum dynamic needs(60db + 30db). I'd not recommend sitting beyond that point.

Pressurization is more important for the LFE channel(Eclipse subs)

OK Thanks for the advice....

Just out of curiousity what would you do???

Would the extra power of the 805 in the HT Setup be better than the newer processing that the 708 offers??

I do like to turn up the volume so I just want to be sure I am not starving my speakers for power.

If I didn't need the extra hdmi spots. I'd put the 805 as my main receiver.
