Onkyo 706 - can't get game video working

Hi,

I just got an Onkyo 706... the instructions say to connect my game console composite cables to the Sat/TV inputs, it just doesn't work. The audio works, but not the video.

Can anyone help? I do have a cable box plugged in via HDMI. I even removed that, thinking it was conflicting with the game console, with no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Welcome to the forum, Dave!

I'm assuming that you have the receiver connected to your display using an HDMI cable. If not, let us know.

With that assumption - is your 706 set up to upconvert the composite video to HDMI? Check out page 92 of the owner's manual under "HDMI - Output Resolution". Try the different settings to see if you can get video.

Also, just to confirm - you did mean composite video (a single cable) and not component video (three cables)? The component video inputs need to be assigned to an input selector.

I don't think you can upconvert composite to hdmi.

You'd need to run the video directly to the tv.

The component video inputs need to be assigned to an input selector.
That is most likely the problem...it always is. You have to assign digital audio inputs and HDMI/component video inputs to an input selector so the receiver knows where to look for the audio/video when you press an input selector.
