Hi All,

I am planning on purchasing an amp and have been checking out Onkyo SR703 and SR674. My source will be a PS3 once it comes out. The price I got for both amps is around the same. Now the question is, should I go for the 703 since it's THX certified, or 674 because of HDMI?

Right now I'm leaning a bit towards 703, because I only have one HDMI source (PS3), which kinda makes it pointless for me to get 674 since I can just plug HDMI into the TV. What do you guys think?

The main use will be movies & games (95%) music (5%)

Thanks

I think you may have answered your own question and I agree with the answer. Take HDMI out of the equation and buy on other features and needs. FWIW, if your TV has an HDMI connection, you can use it to connect directly from the PS3 to the TV.

I gave my opinion on the same question recently. It comes down to Audyssey room correction and HDMI switching/upconversion vs THX certification.

I could care less about HDMI at the moment although the room correction/auto setup could be useful. I personally would value the THX certification over the Audyssey and HDMI. The 7xx series and above is where Onkyo adds pre-outs and that will be useful if you ever decide to add external amplification.

Thanks for the responses.

What about 703 vs. Denon 2106 or 2805?

You can go to Crutchfield dot com and do a side by side comparison of features on the three receivers. Other thing is, Onkyo receivers are more user friendly than Denons.
