Onkyo 702 hookup with DVD/VHS Combo

I just purchase the A/V Onkyo 702. A great receiver that gives you full control over all the other devices (TV, DVD, CD, VCR, PHONO, etc.) Currently, I have only two cables hooked up to the back of the TV (Samsung 42” HDTV Plasma) into the A/V Receiver: 1) Audio – Optical cable & 2) Vidio – Component cable.

Have the HDVD via Component, Tape Deck via Composite and Turntable via Phono going into the Receiver. All of these I can control with the A/V Remote.

Problem: I have a DVD-VCR combo. I connected the unit via S-Video to the A/V receiver. After reading the details on the A/V unit, it should be able to convert the signals from the S-Video and transmit it to the TV via the Component cable. However, I still can’t get anything from the VCR to the TV…… Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

PS. Yes, I know I can hook the TV directly to the VCR via S-Video cable, but that bypasses the whole idea of having the A/V as the controlling unit.

some combo units feed the VHS and DVD signal separatly.

you may need to feed a composite video signal ffrom the VHS side of the combo into the receiver.

Thanks Markw. I disconnected the S-video and connected the composite cable. I now have VHS going through the TV.
