First off hello. i have searched around and i guess i just need to make a post. Might be jumping the gun a little because i didnt write down my model number but here is the issue.
PROBLEM:
Approx 5 year old Onkyo 7.1 receiver just started not producing sound from the rear channels. i noticed it when i was adjusting the level output in the menu. i get NO white noise from the rear right and left at any volume or output level. I get sound from the fronts and center and sub.
What i have done so far:
I experimented with various listening modes but obviously if i could not get white noise at ANY level in the set up i could not get sound in the listening modes.
I checked the speaker connections at the speakers and the reciever - all good.
So since i was not using the right and left surrounds (channel 6 and 7) i decided to hook my speakers to those channels to see if i could get sound. (I only have 5 speakers all aperion front, rear and center)
I get great sound now with the rears hooked to the 6 and 7 outputs
My question is.. what the heck happened to my rear 3 and 4 channels? And what am i losing if i just run my system hooked to the 6 and 7 instead of the 3and 4?
I primarliy use this for TV shows and movies (very little movies) and more music than anything. can i just say "screw it" and leave it hooked up like it is?? it seems to sound fine. but im not real AV savy so please direct me here.
Thanks for all your valuable time to a new forum member and I hope you guys can send me in the correct direction! Thanks again!
