Onkyo 606 video problem

As stated above I'm having an issue with my Onkyo 606. I've had it for a couple years with no problems. Recently, problems started happening when switching from cable to play with my Wii (hehe). The problem being that it wouldn't switch the video, it would just go to a blank, blue screen with no video showing up but you could still hear the audio. At that point I was thinking that maybe it was just some random issue from going from a digital connection (HDMI) to an analog connection (I assume they are analog, they are the stock Wii connects). It could be fixed eventually by turning the receiver off and then turning it back on and eventually the video will show. Now the problem has evolved to where the same thing happens whenever going to watch a movie on my blu ray. It's starting to get a bit more frustrating and I would imagine it will probably only get worse. Any suggestions that I can try?

I'm pretty sure I know what my option is concerning this issue but I wanted try here first before I ditched it. On the plus side, my wife is finally frustrated enough and has given me permission to get new gear!! This time maybe something without all the bells and whistles that I don't use or need.

Have you tried a system reset? I would try that first. How do you have your TV connected to your AVR?

Assuming you BD player is connected to the 606 and then to the TV via HDMI, you may have two separate issues. Have you tried using another HDMI cable to connect the BD player? If that makes no difference then try replacing the cable between the AVR and TV. That way you can at least rule out if one of the HDMI cable has developed a loose connection or something.

I have one HDMI cable going from the reciever to the tv. One HDMI going from the blu ray to the reciever and another HDMI going from cable box to the receiver. The only other thing that is hooked up is the wii as stated before via the original connections.

I haven't tried replacing any cables yet. I would have to order new ones since I don't think I have any laying around. I do have some extra component cables laying around though. I guess I could use those between the receiver and the tv and then just alternate HDMI cables and see if that helps. Thanks for the help.

No mystery there. You play with your Wii, you go blind.

Does it overheat? You can let it cool down for a while. Otherwise, try reconnecting the cables into different sockets.

It's not an overheating issue because it will happen right at start up. The only way I have found to fix it when it happens is to turn the unit off and then back on again until it decides to work. The more I have searched the net I'm starting to find instances of this popping up. The theory has been that it is a known and somewhat frequent problem with the 600 series with the HDMI board(????).

Just to update/ conclude this thread. I did a system reset and it's still just as bad of a problem. Though, after I do a reset I can usually get it to work for that time. Looks like I have a new receiver in my future. Hopefully one that does very few things but does them all extremely well.
