I have not purchased the 605 yet. Will I be able to connect the DishDVR and the Samsung to the 605 and have surround sound and 1080i picture? Samsung has 480p, 720p and 1080i. What signal will I get from the 605? Does the DVR pass the signal to the 605 and then to the Samsung at 1080i? Do I use a HDMI cable with a DVI adapter? As you can see from this post, I am a novice.

Will pass to 605

Hey I have the SR605 to a Panasonic Plasma 1080P and yes you have two HDMI inputs so you can put the DVR and anything else etc. PS3 or blueray then you have one out put to the TV which should have the HDMI input. The 605 will up convert from your component to HDMI if you have to.

I just bought an Onkyo 605. It has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output.

Picture the 605 as an intermediate step between your inputs (sat/cable, DVD, etc), and outputs (TV, surround speakers).

HDMI
The 605 can receive HDMI input from Dish DVR and any 1 other source (BluRay, HDDVD, PS3, etc), and output both to your Samsung TV. I'm assuming your TV has HDMI input?

Upconverting of other signals
The 605 will also upconvert composite, S-Video, and component to HDMI.

The 605 drives 7.1 surround, but this really depends on your source format.

Not sure why you would need a HDMI/DVI adapter. Which component that you currently own has DVI?

Hope this helps...
