Onkyo 1007/3007/5007 experiences?

Hey folks, I was wondering if anyone knew some of the finer differences between these models. I am eyeing the 1007 right now, and wouldn't you know it, Audioholics store has the best price going that I see, from any well known retailer.

My needs and wants are very basic. I don't care about streaming, video processing of any kind, number of hdmi inputs, radio, etc. I assume similar post processing and bass mgmt abilities as my current 805.

I would use it as a pre/pro, and have the receiver itself run a pair of height surrounds via DSX, for a 9.1 rig. I believe it has the preouts. EDIT: actually I'd probably have the receiver run the rears come to think of it, easiest load, and closest speakers depending where you are seated.

I am very interested in trying Dynamic Volume and EQ.

I hope that the mftr webpage is correct by listing Audyssey MultEQ XT. If this is sort of the equivalent to my 805, then that's cool, but the 806 (and perhaps the 807) only offered vanilla MultEQ.

Thanks for offering any insight and idiosyncratic experiences that only a prosumer such as an AHer would know about! :D

I also would like to hear any comments regarding these units. I am considering these along with the Denon 4310 or the latest Pioneer units. I don't have any fancy uses either, HD satellite and blu ray player. Would I need or use the upconversion features?

I haven't had time to delve into the research more yet, but I did find this mini review, which points to 1007 as the better value.

No, you don't need upconversion features anyhow.

The Onkyo price point competition to the 4310 is actually the 5007, which I am utterly unfamiliar with, atm.

question about this unit (5007) as my question has gone unanswered at AVS.

How would I go about measuring watts? I want to measure how much the unit is putting out when bi-amping the mains and also in bridge mode.

I asked onkyo this questions and they emailed me back stating they could not answer my question which I think is BS.

If someone could just point me in the right direction or if somebody already knows that would be great!

Place a resistor across the output terminals and measure the voltage generated. Won't tell you when it starts clipping though. To do it properly you need some pretty expensive test equipment. It's also potentially dangerous and could damage your 5007.

darn, I wish it wasn't so hard.

I can't believe onkyo states that they can't tell me the out put in those modes. That every speaker is different and they don't know what my impedance was. I emailed them back with my impedance and they still said sorry we can't inform you of that.

Grrrr
