I dont know much about room acoustics, so would this sound good or terrible.... a 12x16 room.... with one 12"sub built in to each upper corner... 8 foot ceilings.. subs would be facing towards the middle of the room on a 45 degree angle? Would that give me better all around bass for that specific room or no?

Thanks

That would be asking for cancellation = bad idea. The best location for dual subs would be collocated or at equal 1/3 intervals on the same wall - exact locations will be dependent on your actual room acoustics.

Sorry should have explained more... four corners in the room. So better to have all four subs maybe on the back wall side by side facing down at a 45 towards the floor?

Which direction the subs face isn't that important, but where they are located will make a difference. Is there a reason for having them up top instead of down low? I don't think it will hurt to have them up top, but you will basically need to do some testing with the subs in place to see how they sound before building anything (should be able to be done on the floor and achieve similar results). Why exactly are you going with four subs?

Because right now the subs are in two boxes, two 12s in each box. And I would like to have the floor room in the living room and I could do that by mounting them up top somewhere.... Guess I all have to experiment if there isnt a standard on how sound waves work... I have attached a crap picture of kinda what the house is like.... Audio video room is the 12x16... Let me know what you think....

Thanks

How about one larger sub ?

H'mm maybe one larger sub ? Then you can move the sub around for the best sound if you need too? Why are you think about building in the subs ? Maybe a small sub would not be sufficient for 12 x 16, but there are lots of single subs that can easily handle that size room. SVS makes several that would work : SB12-Plus, PB12-Plus, PB13-Ultra

Good luck!

The sound waves for the lowest frequencies the typical sub can produce are far longer than that room, so as I said, facing them 45 degrees to the listening area will make no difference at all to how well the lowest notes develop. It would be fine to mount them up high, but that doesn't mean it will give you the best performance. When you say "standard", sound behaves the same in every room, but every room is different so your results are going to be entirely dependent on the way the sound reacts to your room and based on your picture, you need to take into account the rest of that open area as well.

What might work is one on the far wall (front) and one near your seating position. If they are dual, side by side subs, you could stand them on end to get some floor space back, then try various positions in the room that give you the best performance. You could maybe also put them both behind the couch.
