So After researching some info on here ( thanks for all who replied to my posts!! ) I have gone with the ENERGY 5.1 surround speaker package ( includes tower speakers and large centre channel ) and a Marantz SR 5009. These fit my limited budget.

My problem is the centre channel. It's large and I want it to hang above TV...I have built a home theatre "alcove" in my basement so there is a mounting spot just above TV. Can anyone suggest a bracket that could handle a decent size centre speaker that hangs from the ceiling and not the wall.

This kind of looks homemade, but kind of cool.
Go to a craft fair with a picture and dimensions of your speaker and see if you can get a price on a custom job. If you leave the grill on, you should be safe from damage, but you would not want to block a tweeter with cord dead center.

I would also add that you might want to check on etsy, there are lots of people doing custom metal or wood work on there for reasonable prices.
