On screen volume with Yamaha RXV757?

I am having difficulty getting my RXV757 to overlay the volume control on my Monitor. I am using the component cables in and out. The signal is from my cable box (high-def) and the TV is high-def. I can use the menu option, but I can't seem to get the volume display to work. Anyone have experiance with this? Can the volume be displayed on the TV with this setup? I followed the manual and could not get it working.

I believe it was previously stated that the on-screen volume will not work on HD broadcast. At least that is what I noticed with the 2500.

I thought the "On-Screen" display did not work with Component?

I have the same issue with my 1500 using the Component Monitor Out. I have herd that the on-screen display does not work with Component Out but does work if you are using S-Video or Composite Out, I have not tried this though.

Anyone else try a Yamaha AVR with S-Video out & gets on-screen volume display?

NetGeek,
I think you may be correct about the 757's inability to show OSD through component. I'm not sure. However, you should be able to see OSD with your 1500 by setting the CMPNT OSD to on. I'm not running my video through my 1500 so I'm not sure of the details but from the manual I understand this to be the case.

The only time your going to see the volume appear while using component is if you activate the menu.
The manual (In the RX-V1500 manual) states OSD not available during component output.

Test yourself while playing the VCR perhaps.

It is very interesting that it is not just about the component video out, I think it is about the component video in. On another setup I did, I used the the RCA video cable in from the cable box and use the component out to the TV. On that setup, the volume displays. On the same setup I used the component in from the DVD and it will not display. It is a shame, that is a nice feature.

I still love my new system! (Infinity TSS-750 Speakers, Yami RXV757 and Yami DVD C750 Changer)

You have me a little confused there Azz123, you say you must activate the menu if you want to see Volume when using component video out but then you say that the 1500 manual states OSD is not available using the component video out???

Are you able to see you volume with component video out ONLY if you are not using a component device such as a VCR? I only have component video out connected to my HDTV and my VCR composite connections are converted to component. I guess I need to hook up a S-Video out to my TV and see if that allows me to see the volume.

The component out works for the setup menus on newer Yamaha receivers thru the component output, but volume level, surround mode, radio station info etc. does not display. The reason for this is the receiver must blank the screen to display the image on the component output since it can't scale the image to all the different video signals that can be on it ( 480I, 480P, 720P, 1080I )

For me (RX-V1500), its all got to do with the input.

If I have VCR (VCR connected via component) selected I see all on the screen that is connected to the receiver via component.

If I have DVD as the source (component input) only the detail is shown on the front of the receiver by default. However if I hit the Menu button on the remote (screen goes black with menu options) and hit the volume up/down, its dispayed on the screen over the menu options..

In a nutshell - the SOURCE defines OSD, not the feed to the monitor.

Hope that clears it up.

If you adjust the volume, change inputs, etc. it will show you the info on screen superimposed over your source. If you use the component output it will only display on screen by blanking the screen. This is output dependent not component dependent.
