My wife is fed up with the boxy supplied remote on our new Sherwood Newcastel 872 reciever.

Now, the Sherwood remote can put out RF directly - which the reciever natively recieves with no extra equipment. Also, the reciever - through a port on the back - will also "re-direct" the remote's signal through a paste on IR repeater to allow for the control of the DVD, cable box, etc...

My question is - will the harmony 1000 also do this function. it clearly says it is RF capabile, but also makes mention of the need for an RF extender. I think my Sherwood receiver is actually playing the role of the RF extendor, but I'm not sure....

Note that I need RF because our equipment is placed behind our listening/viewing position.

Thanks for the feedback.:)

Universal remotes with RF capability will not directly control a device that accepts remote control codes over RF.

The Harmony and other remotes like it send RF to a basestation which in turn sends IR to the devices to be controlled, either by 'blasting' the IR signal from the front of the basestation or through emitters attached to the basestation.

Thank you sir.

So - in order to use a reciever's built in RF functionality, you have to keep the supplier's crappy remote?

Anyway, I'm hearing not so great things about the harmony 1000 anyway. Logitech's new rf-less harmony one, with another ir repeater, may work our best for me if I'm loosing real advantage of RF in anycase.
