? On DVD/BLU-RAY burners/software

I have two different kinds of software that I have ? about.

1.DVD Clone..I have this software and wanting to know if I burn a DVD to a external hard drive is iso file better to use vs the file broke down? Also will the iso file play through the Boxee software/Boxee Box? Is there a way to only pick the main move that you want to copy like how you would do in DVD Shrink?

2.DVD Cloner..I also have this software, can this software copy blu-ray movies? If so how would I do it. When Ive tried to just copy a DVD it always says that there is an error, so Im wondering if there is another piece software that Im missing cause it says that it can copy any kind of write protected software out there but it seems that it dosent even work. I can not get it to do anything at all.

Ive purchased these two software so that I could back up my blu-ray movies and also DVD. Ive used DVD Shrink but it dosent allow me to copy all my movies due to write protection. Thats why Ive purchased these softwares but Im having trouble understanding both softwares. Seems that Clone DVD works great for my DVD's but just not sure how if iso is better to use and if I can play an iso file on my Boxee Box or on the Boxee software. The DVD Cloner dosent work at all. Cant find enough info on the net to really help me out so Im looking to my fellow audioholics.

Thanks in advance

Neither of these programs will create a bit-for-bit backup of your dvd's, they decrypt, decompress, and recompress the videos taking a huge chunk out of the quality, some of them do not even re-encode the audio with dolby digital or DTS. if you have power DVD or windows media player you can do this. Insert the DVD or BD and open either power dvd or wmp and play the first few seconds of the actual movie. this allows the computer to obtain the decryption code for that disc and allows it to read the disc and "unscramble" the data as it is doing it. leave PDVD or WMP open. stop playback and go into my computer, right click on the DVD/BD drive and click "open" now minimize this window and go to wherever you intend to store the backups and create a folder for the files, now go back into the dvd window and select everything and right-click and hit copy, not go into the folder you intend to back up into and right click and hit paste. this will copy the entire contents of the disc onto the hardrive. keep in mind this uses a HUGE amount of disc space but it is the only way to back up a DVD or BD exactly bit for bit.

Also an update on the software. The DVD Cloner dosent work for me at all and Im not sure why either. Ive read the How To but still not working. the Colne DVD works great decodes everything and works just fine. It copies everything to a 1:1 ration if i chose it to be. These movies that Im trying to copy are originals DVD that I have had for many years. Im not to concerned about if there high def quality or the best sound, I was more concerned in copying them to a hard drive to get rid of the DVD its self to save on space, and have everything stored on a hard drive. If Im looking for the best picture/audio quality I usually buy blu-ray. Im still just wondering if ISO files is the way to go. My main thing is that Im wanting a media library of my old movies stored on a hard disk where I can just click and watch vs getting up and putting the disc in all the time. Open to many suggestions.

When you say huge disc space how much are we talking? I have about 300 movies and I was hopen to fit all them on a 2 tera hard drive is this possible?

a typical DVD is about 7 GB, a TB is 1024 GB so you could store about 292 movies on it. if you aren't looking to actually backup the dvds meaning so they can be re-burned in case they get damaged and you just want to put the videos onto the computer use a program called 1 click dvd ripper. it's the only dvd ripper i have found that rips correctly with protected material. used the DIVX codec to encode, you will have to download and install that seperately. DIVX looks just as good as DVD at around 700kbps. a couple settings you need to make sure of in 1 click dvd ripper is that you check the sync audio to video box, if you don't it will go way out of sync.

Ok Ill also try that one. Before I got Clone DVD I was using DVD Shrink and that worked real well, very easy to use and had a ton of dif ways to use it, the only prob that I had was it wouldnt copy all my movies. Im guessing that the encrypting on it wasnt that good and thats why some of them did copy other than that it workes great. So I got the Clone DVD and it will copy every move that I have thrown at it but seems like its just saving everything so that if I want to burn the movie later I can vs being able to play movie. It breaks eveythign down so that u have to always click the next set of chapters to be played. Where as the DVD Shrink would copy just the main movie and u could play main movie and not have to go back and forth and hit play all the time. I just need something that decode eveything that I have and also copy them to hard drive so that I can play it "movie" only and fast too.

1 click will be your best bet then because it will create a single file video file that can be played back on any program such as WMP. 1 click is really the only ripper i have found that works the way it should as it encodes using direct show codecs (such as divx) into AVI files. clone dvd essentially does what i told you to do originally, creates a bit for bit copy, an ISO is simply an archive container similar to winzip or winrar.

Well that makes sence then I will try that one too and see if I can get that one to work. Yeah thats what I was looking for a single video file. At least I know that he Clone DVD will copy any DVD to a disc which will be very useful later on put as of right now i just want what ur talking about.

So ur saying with an iso file it just like a compressed copy of the move that can be used later to burn a movie then, and not realy an good other than that?

Thanks for all the help glad I can count on ppl here for help.

ISO are not compressed, they are just a container.

Ok I see what your saying. So what good is copying something and turning it into a ISO file then?

Sorry for all the questions Im kinda computer illiterate and just trying to learn.

I got another question for you. When using DVD Shrink some movies will copy to one VOB file and they play fine other movies I try to copy say that DVD Shrink cant copy this. Dose that mean the the movie needs to be decripted so that DVD Shrink can then copy the movie? If that is the case can I just find a decrypting software that will decript the movie then it will copy the movie using the DVD Shrink? I looked up 1Click but it seems that you need a decrypting software to allow you to decrypt any DVD is this true? The software that they talk about is DVD43, will that software also work for DVD Shrink?

using the method i told you to decrypt dvds using WMP or power dvd will decrypt them for 1click. there is software from slysoft that decrypts dvds called anydvd as well.
