Omnimount 20.0C Speaker Mount

Anyone got experience with this? How long is it?

WHat I want to do is mount my bookshelf speakers (EMP Tek e5Bi) on the ceiling facing slightly down. I know where the stud is so that's not a concern, but right now my issue is that i'm using the mounts that EMP sold with these things. For wall-mounting they're allright, but i've got them ceiling mounted and it's so awful that i haven't even wired my rears in because of that. The rears literally face the ground... at most I can get about a 20 degree angle towards the seating area before the top of the speaker presses against the sealing.

Thus I want to hang it lower, and the Omnimount 20 seems perfect - but I can't seem to find any real dimensions.

Next time can you provide links, and weights, etc? Thanks. Right now I'm looking for the weight, and I've already googled the mounts to make sure they are the ones I am using. It would facilitate better advice I think, cheers.

Ok, found it, only 7.5 lbs?

They will work just fine. My rears are PSB Alpha B1s and they are about a few lbs heavier, each.

You do have to really torque the allen, and even when you do, there might* be a little sag. But it will permanently hold. So, maybe torque it when just a couple of degrees higher than you want, and then it will be perfect. You can just retry too if need be, pretty easy.

Wire mgmt is basically non-existent. It comes with a black nylon sheath, and I think not long enough either (some wire is exposed), though no biggie.

I actually replaced B25s with these Alphas to facilitate ceiling mounting. However, I've said on multiple occasions that if I did this all over again, I would have kept the larger Images, and drilled right into them, and used something like the HTD mounts.

Good luck. Those will work fine.

BTW, I will measure it this weekend, at some point.

I have used them before and I wasn't a big fan of them. As mentioned, they aren't easy to aim perfectly and they can sag over time even if you crank the heck out of them. Drilling into the speaker to mount was also something that I didn't like, but they were just some spare surrounds I had and it worked.

BTW, WRONG FORUM :)

It looks to be just a hair less than 8". My guess is 7.75". (I had to measure two segments, since the arm is angled.) That is from base to center of rod/arm, using the incredibly precise eyeballing method.

Hrm? Isn't this miscellaneoous hardware?

that seems to be plenty, based on the eyeballing method ;)

I see. So did you discover any better alternatives? If it's the only choice, then it seems I'm going to have to give it a shot. The room was designed with a 3-way fireplace which completely messes stand placement, and it's open backed to take away wall-mounting.

Wire mgmt is basically non-existent.
Not an issue, i don't even have raceways to hide wire in the first place.

I have some omnimounts for my SVS M-Series bookshelf speakers. The speakers weigh almost 30lbs, and the mounts hold them up pretty well. They do tend to sag a little bit. I found if you set them a little higher, then when they sag they will be in the correct place. Its also a lot easier with two people. One person to hold the speaker while the other tightens the mount.
