Omega Supreme's HT "Past to Present"

Here are some pics off my first HT. I called it my "Frankenstien" system. It was a system that I put together with my old equipment and my new wife's equipment. This was a system built with no budjet as my wife was a full time college student and we were living on one income. It consisted of a 27" Philips tv, a Sony DVD player, old Kenwood stereo (L & R channel), old Aiwa stereo (Surround channel), old Sony stereo (Center). For the center speaker i used a RCA center speaker that i bought at a K-Mart that was going out of business for $5. I sounded a little better than running the center thru my tv. This was a frustrating little system mainly due to the 3 diffrent volume controls. For the surrounds I would place the speakers on top of a box that set in a chair while in use and would have to move them back to where you see them below while not in use. With all the difficulties I loved this little system. It was a lot of fun tinkering with. Here is my good ol "Frankenstien".

Here is the new system. After about 5 years with Frankenstien I finally starting upgrading. It took me about a year to build this system. It consists of a Denon 3805, Def. Tech. 7002's, CLR 2500, & a pair of BPX's, same DVD player (waiting on HD player to upgrade) & the Panasonic 50" TH-50PX50U. Cables & Wire from BlueJean cables. On one of my back walls there was no where to mount the right surround speaker. Instead of mounting them on the rear wall I made the speaker stands so i can pull them out an place them in there correct location. They work pretty well but I may go back an make some out of metal tubing. I could not be happier with my new HT. Take a look and see what ya think. My future upgrades are HD DVD player, rear surrounds (probably in-walls, the wife is maxed out on the # of speakers not to mention there size), and maybe even a supercube sub.

I hope this works. This is the first time i have tried to post pics.

Very nice!

No subwoofer? oh, and how low do those towers actually go, they say like 12hz, but, well I want to hear it from you ;)

Not sure how low the 7002's subs go. I need to get me a SPL meter from radio shack. I may get one this weekend. I should have invested in that instead of the Denon setup mic. They have a good deal of bass though. Its just like having 2 - 12" 300watt subs.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know how hot is to hot for your equipment cabinet. I noticed the first time I watched a move with my new equip. cabinet that it got pretty warm. I placed a digital thermometer in the very top of the cabinet and it was 105 deg. F. That seemed pretty hot to me so I bought a small 110v fan from radio shack a put in there. It brought the temp down to 80 deg's. Only problem was you could here it running. So I took it back and now I have to leave the cabinet doors open. Does anyone no where I can get a quiet 110v fan. The one from Radio Shack said its noise output was 36db. Thanks for any help.

If you can hide it, just hook up your 110v fan to a variable resistor (like the dial kind for lighting). This will allow you to change the speed of the fan as you wish. All you need is like $10 at Home Depot and some patience.

I would look into computer shops. Many nerds are picky about noise in there computers, So there are lots of quiet fan solutions out there.

Yes Sheep that's true, but remember that computer fans are 12VDC, not 120VAC. Unless he wants to invest in a transformer, he's either going to buy a new fan, or purchase a variable resistor for the fan.

I had thought about doing that Jaxvon but Im trying to limit my clutter in my cabinet. I bet thats what I end up doing though. Im going to try Comp USA and see what they have.

Get the 120mm Enermax it has a variable speed resistor you just need like a 12v adaptor for AC outlet. This is what I use on my computers water cooling system its silent. like 17dB all the way down.

I was just curious what influenced your speaker and hardware decision?

I really like what you have done and the cabinet is gorgeous.

P.S. would you mind reducing the photo sizes so they can viewed without scrolling?
Thanks

Thanks Westcott,

I guess the biggest thing that influenced my desision was the price and performance. I had listened to alot of diffrent speakers ex. Polk, Klipsh, Mirage, Jamo, Boston Acou., Martin Logan, .... and the Def. Tech's sounded the best IMHO. I take that back. The Martin Logans sounded the best but the price was  . As i was about ready to buy I visited one of the few HT stores in Alabama and he was about to move his store to a new location. He gave me 25% off of the 7002's, 15% off of the 2500 & 40% off of the BPX's. The rest is history and I have been extreemly happy.

A larger diameter fan spinning slower is generally much quieter and still moves plenty of air.
