So my Samsung 55” LCD TV that is about 9 yrs old made a loud pop and died last night. It was my main TV until about 2 yrs ago and has been on bedroom duty since. My main TV is a Samsung 65” JS8500 SUHD and I am happy with it.

My first thought was okay I’ll pick up a new TV for my bedroom. My wife floored me and suggested getting a new main TV and moving the 65” Samsung to the bedroom.

My conundrum is do I get the 65” LG OLED that I wanted when I originally bought my Samsung or get a bigger TV. I definitely don’t want to go backwards in picture quality if I go bigger. My budget is $3000 or less. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have any inclination, you could watch youtube videos and fix it yourself. I did so with very basic tools - short tester, a screwdriver and a bit of credit card to a vendor in TX who could replace ICs on the boards.
I fixed my Panny plasma all in all for about $105.

I think your wife is correct, move 65" to the bedroom and get a new TV. I won't recommend 2017 Samsung TV. They have dropped the ball on backlight full-array - went with side lite only and it's not great. They've learned from their mistake and 2018 Samsung would be much better, especially QLED, which actually maybe finally exchange swings with OLED panels, but if you're in rush, just get the Sony X900e or f

Thanks for the reply. I thought about fixing it. Even pulled off the back panel and swapped out the fuses. Didn’t work. Figure the whole power panel needs replacement. Was almost $200 for a replacement And who knows if that fixes it and still at the end it’s 10 yrs old and then what’s next.

I’m comfortable with getting something new to replace the main Samsung. Right now the 65” OLED C7’s are in my price range. Just not sure if I were to go up to 75” what is the best TV in my price range and is better then my current 2015 Samsung JS8500.

Really, you've been living with a Samsung LCD television for several years now. You also have a very reasonable budget.

Are you unhappy with the image you have?

Do you want a large image than you have?

If you aren't unhappy with image quality, then take a look at the options you can afford which are larger in size and within your budget. There are options from 75" to 85" which may (or may not) be in budget.

I just went from a 64" plasma to a 85" Samsung in my family room because I wanted more brightness and more size. I got both, but took a hit on image quality.

If you just love the size, then the jump to higher image quality with OLED is pretty apparent and holds true for OLED.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up deciding on the 75” 900 series Sony. It was a tough decision, but in the end I decided bigger was more important. It was on sale at B.B. for a little less than the C series OLED. Picture isn’t as good as the OLED, but it’s quite a bit better than my already pretty good Samsung and it’s bigger. :D

What a coincidence. Did you end up paying the same price as Amazon link above or less?

Ha ha I paid the same. Thanks again for the advice. Also free Delivery and setup. I typically wouldn’t care about that, but I had shoulder surgery a couple weeks ago and could use the help(why I went with B.B.)

Only issue I have was the salesperson told me the 900E was supposed to get Dolby Vision via firmware update which is really what sealed the deal for the Sony. I did some research when I got home and everything I read points to it NOT ever getting the update. It’s supposed to be delivered on Thursday, but I’m considering getting something else now. :(

Don't worry too much about Dolby Vision, HDR10 is far more widespread format
