I have an older (10 years old) Def Tech PowerField 1500 powered sub that has only speaker level and line level in/out RCA's. It was connected to my older Denon integrated amp via the Pre Out/Main In jacks; basically there were four RCA-ended audio cables between the two units. I just bought a new Yamaha receiver, and like most all new lower-end receivers it has only a single sub out and a single sub in jack, no LFE jack. My question is, my 18" 300w Deft Tech sub STILL rocks hard but I'm not sure how to connect it? I would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

You could set your receiver for small mains and use a Y connector to two RCA's for your sub (from the sub output off your receiver). you really don't need the outputs on the sub as your outputs from the receiver to your mains are already bandwith limited.

It will work fine just as JoeE said. The reason you used pre-out/main-on on the integrated amp is because it likely didn't have any kind of bass management (it's just an amp with a tuner, not a pre-processor).

The only difference now will be that you will want to use the xover setting in the receiver instead of the sub. If you cannot disable the sub's xover, just turn it all the way up.

Thanks to both of you for your prompt and informative replies. Sounds like I complicated something simple, because just before I posted my question I wondered why I couldn't just use a "Y" connnector? Your info on the bass management answered another Question, so thanks again!

You're right MDS. I forgot about the crossover setting on the subwoofer. I have electronic crossovers and I sometimes forget the small things involved in setting up systems. Also, I've never owned a receiver.
