Hi everyone... I have an 8 year old Sony XBR 65" projection HD TV. It is 1080I but I only use it in the basement for the kids and the occasional movie. We also use it when we run on the treadmill. The TV has a bunch of "lines" that move on the left-hand side of the TV. The lines kinda jump toward the middle of the TV and then back to their rightful place. You can't really notice it unless you are looking for it.
On top of that, the XBR has an "auto-focus" feature to line up the color guns. This alignment feature is cool, but it doesn't allow for manual alignment by the user. When I turn on this TV it usually is slightly "off" and then I run the auto-alignment (takes two seconds) and it gets back into order. Recently, however, the three colors have been EXTREMELY off. So much so that the auto-adjustment feature can't fix it. Since I can't do it manually, I can't fix it. Usually it goes away if I turn the TV off for 5 minutes, but sometimes it stays that way for a day or two.
My question to you all... I'm not sure what a set-up would cost on this TV, but I imagine it is $100 - $200. Then, of course, if there is a part needed or repairs I'm looking at more... is it worth it? I can probably buy a similar sized 4 - 6 year old monster projection like this one locally (craigslist) for $300 - 400. Should I just replace the TV, or should I have it professionally adjusted?
Thanks for the input!
