Older model options

Greetings! I've been a lurker of the forum for a while now, but just recently decided it was time to participate. I hope I can give back as much as I ask for :D Anyhow, I have recently gotten back into A/V gear and several days ago made my first big purchase in roughly 10 years! Now I'm trying to find a decent DVD player match for my shiny new Onkyo TX-SR803. I've done a bit of research and decided on serveral older, discontinued models because of their supposed quality and current prices. Here's what I'm looking at:

Philips Q50
Panasonic DVD-CP72
Panasonic DVD-XP30
Sony DVP-S7000

My only concerns are decent video and audio quality, not a mess of features or capabilities like DVD-A or SACD. Essentially, the player will be a stop-gap until I can get all the bits of my HTPC together.

That being said, which of the four would be my best bet? Or are there better options for my money? Any info would be most appreciated!

Thanks

If I remember correctly, wasn't that Sony 7000 one of the top models in its time? I would recommend that for sure.

Thank you for the reply! According to what I've read, I'd say you're completely right in regards to it being a top model in its day. I'm sure it would make a decent addition, however, I recently re-read its specs and realized it doesn't support DTS playback.

Anyhow, given that discovery I decided to go with the Q50 ... hope it was the right choice, but if it wasn't, at least I didn't pay much for it ;)

Most likely you will not go wrong with that either. The DTS will not be an issue. Video is the unknown but should be fine.
