Hello audio people just joined the forum I’ve been into audio 50 years now boy was it simple back then.Lately my theater just hasn’t been cutting it I know it’s me with settings and to top it off my dennon 4520 decided to quit so I ordered a marantz 8012 so hopefully I can get it set up right.Ive.got a question about the height chanels for atmos. I have some Bose cubes that we’re giving to me one is the acuostimass 7 the other is acuostimass 3 do you think I could run these for the height speakers and would I use the bass boxes for each setup because I also have those as well. I do woodworking so I could make some kind of mount .Thanks for any kind of help.

You could use the Bose if you really need to, but there are better speakers....I'd not bother with their bass modules, tho....assume you have proper subwoofage already.

What happened to the 4520? I have one, too. Setup/learning for the 8012 won't be much different I'd think in any case.

If you need more oomph. I would invest in better subwoofage. The 8012 is a great AVR and I think you’ll like it a lot.
As far as the cubes, you can try them just for fun, but they’re basically useless. The frequency response is small and wonky and the output won’t be very dynamic. If you try them, I’d look to replace in short order.
Subs from Rythmik, HSU, SVS, and monolith would be a good place to start looking.

Well I'd get a better sub than a DT to go with the avr and speakers, but that's me. Still, better than the Bose bass module. Some B&Ws are known to be hard on amps, tho so maybe you should consider external amps? Not sure what you mean about getting to the right format bit. Sounds like a stuck relay on the Denon....

bass boxes
I would suggest using these for End Tables, but they are not even good for that. :(

And that Def Tech isn't in the class of the Subs linked. Want to put a Smile on your face? Get a Great Sub

Thanks ya I know what you mean about the Bose being weak I just thought being small and in intrusive and free they might be a good fit about the Bose boxes I thought they might have some kind of crossover in them that you had to use .Those band w are getting old and now you have me wondering . I always thought of possibly some klipcsh but was told I’m downgrading now the wheels are spinning. I have a pair of 1978 cornwalls from a church that have never been opened or tinkered with unfortunately they won’t begin to fit in my space lot to think about lot of dollars to think about

I agree with other regulars, before jumping into "new formats" like Atmos and it's height channels, you probably could improve home theater experience with proper sub(s). Any of above-mentioned internet direct brands you can't go wrong as long as you size it correctly, but my heart lies with HSU as they are the king of bang for the buck as far as price/performance goes.
Depends on room size and how many people/seats would you like to have good bass. One sub in the correct location (look for sub-crawl guide) covers about 1-2 sports. More than that and you should look at least at two subs.

With your woodworking skills, there are some guys here who could help you make a couple of great subs if you are so inclined. It will save some money and give you "I made those" bragging rights!
Let us know if you are interested and we can put you in touch with the right guys (I am thinking TLSGuy's transmission line subs)

They're well marketed. Performance has never been their strong suit. They also tend to be quite small and WAF friendly :). If you have the woodworking chops all kinds of diy sub designs for various drivers out there for you to build....I've not got great woodworking skills but have built my own last several subs (but learning a bit more each time :) ).
