Hey--first post here, looking for some help before i take it in to the repair shop.
Ive got my dads old record player, amp and floor speakers that I brought back to school with me to set up. There are a few problems after setup.
Setup:
Marantz 1060 Console Stereo Amplifier
Philips Turntable (not sure exact model, belt drive)
2-De Musica Sonus Floor Speakers (sure theyre gone now, out of Denver)
Problem:Right speaker emits just a loud hum. To listen out of both speakers I have to turn the balance way left(no sound from right speaker) or push the Mono Left button(Left signal only from both speakers). Since the mono button works, Im guessing this is a problem with the turntable output.
Problem: Left speaker has a light hum, but is still listenable at lower volumes, hum gets worse at higher volumes. However, when playing music-if the speaker gets bumped at all it seems to freak out and have a siezure, thumping away for a second or two. Doesnt sound good, and have NO idea what may cause this...?!
Also: Dont have the ground wire attached at the moment...is this a big deal?!
Looking for any feedback on the components, possible causes and solutions, estimated repair costs....ANYTHING really, this is my first vinyl setup so Im pretty new to all of it. THANKS for everything!
