Old speaker/Modern Home theater question

Hello everybody,

I've been lurking around here for awhile and I figured it was time to finally jump in so I have a question I was hoping to get some help with. I have an older stereo system I purchased back in 1996-97. It was kind of awesome (I think I was a stupid college kid. What did I know), right before Pro-Logic came about. My question is can I use the speakers from this system as my main front left/right speakers in a 5.1/7.1 set-up? I have been looking at the Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers for my home theater set-up. Can I go Pioneer center, sub, rear(s) and my old speakers left/right? My old system is a Sharp SV-9800 with CP-9800 speakers. Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks for your input.

NO, you shouldnt mix speakers on the front stage, use the sharps as surrounds... get the front 3 pioneers...
welcome to the forum and keep in mind you can do what ever you want, there is no law against it but the results will suffer...

Agree. The front three should match. I'd suggest you move your current speakers to surround duty and get a matching threesome form the front three.

Also agree - move the Sharp to surround channel use

Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah, the sharp speakers aren't gonna work for surround because of their size. They're about 3 1/2 feet tall. The stereo actually has it's own surround sound speakers. Thanks for the input though. I'm sure I'll have more questions as this goes along.
