Hi all, kinda new here and was looking for a tip or two while I set up my (very old) Pioneer VSX-5700S Receiver...

1. (n00b question here) but when there is four speaker surround, which is right and which is left when hooking up the back speakers? (looking at them is that left or right) OR (facing the television which is left or right) I know its kinda stupid, but just wondering...

2. Old Pioneer receivers are famous for having the front panel lights turn out due to bad soldering. Anyone know where to get old Pioneer receiver manuals (VSX-5700s) for free or at least cheap? I dont want to crakc oipen this thing completely blind here..

Just trying to tweak the best I can out of this old (but still very good) receiver.....

Thanks!

Hopefully it's not your fluorescent indicator. I had the same problem with an old Pioneer and the fluorescent indicator was more than the unit was worth. Good luck.

Thanks for the help! The screen wen ton and off for a while, so I know it was not a fuse...could that mean it is still the indicator? Maybe bad Soldering? What I mean is it didn't just quit completely...it used to go on and off....now it dosent turn on anymore....also, what does light up is the knob on the volume....nothing else, however.....thanks again..

Well, I'm not goingto buy a manual, but...

...if it's old enough to predate Dolby Digital and DTS and is only Dolby Pro Logic, then both rear surrounds output the same material. DPL is only four channels. Right Front, Center, Left Front and a mono surround, although it is played out of two speakers.

Isn't there a sequenced test tone to ascertain the channels?

Not sure what you mean, how can i find out? I'm pretty good with electrons...meaning i pick up thing quickly...

Also, about the surround sound you are talking about.....

Say a airplane move from the center to the left of the screen....am I going to hear the plane move that way with that current set up? And whats all of the fuss about 6 channel? Probably been asked before...know where I can get info about this?

Thanks again...
