old ohm d2s for mains?

I am upgrading my old system to 7.1 with a denon 3805, yamaha 2500, or marantz 8500.

I really still like my old ohm d2s and would like to use them as my mains.

Thinking of adding aperion 522-vac center and 4 522D for surrounds, and rear.

I am also thinking of keeping my Cambridge Sound Works BaseCube 10 sub.

Is this crazy? Should I spend the extra $ and get 2 more 522Ds to make everything "matched"?

It's best to have at least the fronts and center matched so that pans across the front are seamless. This does not necessarily mean identical speakers - just speakers from the same company and within the same line unless the company specifically says that different models are 'timbre matched'. The surrounds are less critical and subwoofers don't have to match at all.

If it were me, I would get the extra 522Ds or whatver other Aperion speaker is timbre matched to the center you will get. You can always use the older speakers in another setup or use them for zone2 if your receiver has that capability.

Ohm makes a center channel speaker. Why not check with them and see if it will match with your speakers. You can do an entire OHM 7.1 system.

Current ohms

Anyone have any experience with current ohm speakers, haven't heard anything about them in years. Still in business? No dates on web site, so don't know if they are still around. Used to be a very popular brand. (years ago) What Happened?

Ohm is still out there. I tried the center channel with my Ohm -2s (walsh drivers) and they sounded better without it. Ohm now sells upgrades for older systems that provide a bit lower bass. Am considering that instead of subwoofer because wife hasn't reacted well to subwoofers aesthetically or sonically.

Ohm is very much alive. I've been listening to a pair of Microwalsh Talls for a few months now.

For your HT system, I would talk to the guys over there for suggestions.
