Old Loudspeaker Cabinets as Bass Traps??

On my way to "discovering" Realtraps a few months ago, I remember stumbling onto a website selling some rather pricey tuned resonator type bass traps (RPG Modex Corner Bass Traps http://www.rpginc.com/products/modexcorner/index.htm)
Each one cost nearly as much as many high-end loudspeakers... and the more I looked, the more they actually resembled loudspeakers — 40lb. cabinets full of fiberglass with some sort of proprietary membrane technolgy at work at the entry port (sort of like a dead speaker cone?). Since then, I have wondered from time to time: what if one were to stack three or four old discarded speaker cabinets one on top of another in each of the corners of a room... Seeing as how bass traps and loudspeakers both resonate in roughly the same end of the audio frequency spectrum, would there be bass absorbtion of any great consequence? And could it be useful in very inexpensively tuning a room — who knows or cares what's behind that decorative grill cloth running floor-to-ceiling. Just a funny idea perhaps...
