Greetings, I've just bought a LG 42lf66 lcd tv and a panasonic SC-PT850 dvd home theatre sound system and Ive got a couple of issues that you whizz kids maybe able to cast some light on.

1: I connected the dvd to the tv via HDMI cable and a phono cable as per manual but i cant get normal tv audio output through the surround sound system. I've tried turning the tv speaker off, turning the tv sound down etc. the phono cable is a Monster brand with arrows on it, these I positioned poining to the dvd player...Ive put this lead into both positions on the tv, back and side, set the dvd to aux and av nothing, any advice please

2 even following the manual I cannot move the tuned tv channels to a sensible position, eg channel 1 (BBC) to channel 1 on the tv.

by the way im using an analogue signal while waiting for satellite HD to be installed

a very frustrated oldie....

Well, at least we can help you with your audio issues, but not anything to do with other issues:D

The manual should have a section in it on how to set it up with the supplied mic. Disconnect those analog audio cables to the TV for the time being. Also, try to reverse the audio cables and see if that helps. It shouldn't but who knows what Monster has done to those cables.
At least this should set up the player to output 5.1. Once that works, then we can work on getting the TV audio working.
Without having the manual it is not an easy process with this kind of setups.
How is the cable box audio is connected and to what? Cable TV video?

thanks for your response, I have reversed the leads many times to no avail, as to the mic set up the lead supplied was too short for my room by about 6 feet (2 mtrs) but i tried it anyway, the system just beeps through each speaker for ages and never showed the set up complete message. I have run films through the dvd and the surround sound is very good in that mode

So, at least the surround sound has sound out in them:D
Now, how is the TV audio connected to the setup? I presume from the cable TV box to someplace, by analog or digital and to where?
Can this setup select different inputs on it?

TV audio with OTA signal

Jenga,
I am also usign the OTA signal from my TV to pick up the local stations in HD. The TV is getting the audio and video feed from the connected antenna. In order to route the audio through the receiver, I use the digital audio output (signle RCA connection) from the TV and connect it to one of the digital audio inputs in the receiver. In most cases, you may have to assign the inputs on the receiver so it know to look for the digital coax connection vs. digital optical, analog audio, or HDMI for that source.

An analog audio connection from the TV would also work, but most of my stations are digital and occasionaly a program will have a DD 5.1 audio feed so the digital audio connection is preferred.

Next time you need A/V cables, check out monoprice.com before you buy any more monster cables.
