Have a Dayton Titanic MKIII 15" currently....considering building a large vented enclosure now to up the output slightly for the theater.

Based on the driver (which I do not have specs for) and the HPSA1000 plate amp that I have with it, what is going to be the ideal dimensions to tune for very low frequency?

Very large extended bass shelf tuned just about at the drivers resonant frequence. Bear in mind that this is a sound quality type ported box so it wont have much punch but shouls be capable of nice overall output and minimal ringing

I went and modeled the sub for you with the 18hz 3rd order HPF on the amp.

Here's what I would probably build

300 L box
12" x 6" x 39" slot port for a 20 hz tuning

You might go slightly over xmax at the most extreme transients below and above the tuning frequency. Just try to listen 2-4 db below reference and you'll be fine.

One thing I would certainly do is EQ down any measured room gain and modes.

Thanks an absolute ton Granteed, I really appreciate it.

In theory, will this sound much different that the current sealed box that it already came in? What will be the benefits/drawbacks of the new design

I think this is the driver:

I would remove the driver from the enclosure it's in now and check to be sure though.
Thats the one. I pulled it and checked.

It's not as large and low tuned as i would have liked because of the high driver fs and fixed high pass filter. It definitely wont be as dry and tactile as a properly designed ported box using an lms-r or tempest x2 iumo. eqing flat to you room is very important. The box i suggested would actually start to rise in lower bass response in anything but the largest rooms which is undesirable. Ideally you want a natural rolloff so that it matches room gain.

I do think you would experience a a change in sq. i know nothing about the original box so i cant comment further.

It would still be better than most commercial offerings. SQ and SPL wise.

Ive also found out that I can easily shift hpf down to 12hz with a capacitor changeout on the preamp board.

Granteed...
The space it's in currently is definitely too small for that, but will be moving mid-january, and the space it will go in is 18x30 with 20ft ceiling, so definitely need the extra output.

The folded slot port will give you the greatest output outside of a horn loaded build.
